Seriously... doesn't the water freeze to your line as you cast that fly rig?

I know of more than one while I was fishing, the water would freeze to the
top guide a short amount of time as I'd reel in.

I coat my fly lines with red Mucilin (animal fat) so my
fly lines don't freeze up. The guides on the fly rod do
freeze shut after a few casts but all you do is dip your
rod in the stream to clear them out.

The biggest problem I had with winter fishing was the snow
sticking to my felt soled wading boots. Walk a few steps
and you were carrying ten pounds of snow per boot. I got
rubber overshoes to put on my wading boots when I wasn't
in the water and solved that problem.

I agree, winter sucks big time.

I am almost to the point of asking who out here, that lives down
south, wants to put me up for a week of Southern winter fishing.

Hopefully my new Curados will get here and I can practice out in the
10 degree sunny winter days. I wonder how long before the people in
the apartment complex will wait before calling the nut squad to come
and collect the "strange" man casting and flipping in the snow?

Randy maybe we can find someone to put us both up.

Well, here I sit awaiting the arrival of the new Curados so I can cast
and flip into the snow on this sunny 20 degree day It may reach 30/35
later in the week. I know I will not be able to wait once the Curados
arrive.

I might just open the patio door and cast and flip out into the field
next door. Jeez, I hope I don't clip anyone walking on the sidewalk.
Maybe I should put up a sign..."Crazed fisherman practicing ahead,
beware of flying lures".

Sure we do. Its a frigid 55F out this morning, and its only expected to
warm up to 75 today.

Its predicted to get upto 78 by the weekend. I may just have to break out
the cold weather gear and go fishing.

Oh, brrrrrr! I just checked Weather Underground and somebody has added a
weather station over at Hidden Shores. Its almost five degrees cooler on
the river. I may actually have to wear a long sleeve t-shirt under my shirt
if I go out Saturday.

I dunno, Bob. Highs in the 70's, lows in the 50's and low 60's.
Just another day in paradise!

Sorry, Charles. I just couldn't resist. I've only seen snow once, and I
can't imagine fishing in weather so cold that your line and guides ice up.

Then try to imagine fishing in temperatures so cold that the reel only lasts
an hour before freezing up. That's what happens when you fish in 17 degrees
with 25 mph winds from the north! It was a good thing I carry so many rods
and reels in the boat, I was able to get through the day of guiding, but I
had to empty the rod locker that night, bringing everything inside to thaw
out. Luckily the guys didn't last a full day, they were done after they
wanted to see how fast my boat was.

We did a 70 mph blast across the lake for a very short time, then they
decided they'd had enough, especially after the guy in the middle thought
his eyelids were frozen open! :-) I wonder what the wind chill was going 70
mph into a 25 mph wind at 17 degrees?
