Check out the testimonials. Marla is always at the fishing shows in Conn. and Mass. You can't miss the bright red hair. I've heard from friends that she is a good guide and teacher. Dave |

oups.com... My family (me, my wife and our son) really wants to get into fly fishing this spring so we have been looking at schools. I would like to get some opinions and/or recommendations regarding these schools as my son is only 10. I'd like to make sure that he gets as much out of it as he can. We live just outside of Albany, NY and have been looking at the Orvis school in Manchester, VT. There are nearer and perhaps cheaper ones in the Adirondacks, at Lake Placid (Jones' Orvis shop) and two in nearby Wilmington (Fran Betters at http://www.adirondackflyfishing.com/ and Kevin Henebery at http://www.ausableriversportshop.com/package.htm ) -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada) |

If you feel compelled to spend more money, I'd suggest doing the school first, then hiring a local guide for a day-long trip on your local waters. If you book a guide, make sure the guide knows your level of experience. Also, many fly shops do on-the-water courses. Check at the fly shops -- Scott Reverse name to reply |
