Well, . . . in all honesty, I *do* find it much easier to follow threads
when everyone posts one way or the other. I can follow either of these:

OK, two people. In all honesty I can't remember a complex post that I couldn't
follow simply due to posting style - it's usually the substance that's
confusing. g

oh hell tim...even in the threads in which everyone compulsively follows
the so-called convention, with all the snipping of original posts and
the unusual content of replies, i don't think your illustration/model
serves as a rational justification for bottom-posting or better thread
comprehension.

c'mon now...give it a try. i sense a bit of the humorous anarchist and
contrarian in you...top-posting will set you free!!! to hell with the
entire state of illinois and every kenfortenberry that dwells in it,
raise your 7-iron into the air, take a sip of tequila, embark on the
adventure of remembering what was said without having to read it two or
more times, save all that time wasted in scrolling down the computer
page, shout that you're mad as hell and you're not gonna take it
anymore...and then... slip a few lines into the top of your next
reply... it won't hurt, honest. go ahead...do it...and all your dreams
will come true (yes...even those).

traveler...oh lawd, oh lawd, what we gwan ta do now)

How are you today?
Fine - how are you?
I'm doing pretty well, thanks, except for this pain in my ass.
Pain in your ass? That's too bad. Are you seeing a doctor?
No - it goes away when I stop reading ROFF.

Pain in your ass? That's too bad. Are you seeing a doctor?

But after the combination of top and bottom, the stuff gets pretty tough to
follow:

Pain in your ass? That's too bad. Are you seeing a doctor?
Fine - how are you?
How are you today?
I'm doing pretty well, thanks, except for this pain in my ass.
No - it goes away when I stop reading ROFF.

So it would be best, in a perfect world, if everyone posted the same way.
However, unlike some, it doesn't ruin my day, and I can take the extra time
to decipher the code, especially when Jeff's posts are involved.

It's hilarious, actually. It is touching, though, that even after he lost his
real net nanny job he continues to perform for free. g

it makes little difference to me where
something is posted in this or any other newsgroup...and i doubt it
makes all that much difference to most normal folks.

I expect it matters to precisely one person.

"Matters?" I'd not go so far as to say "_matters_" to me, but like Tim,
I find easier to follow if whatever follow-up is below the
followed-upon. But if not, hey, whatever. Now, OTOH, the lack of caps
- what do y'all think ya are, ROFF-whisperers or something?

That's funny... but, um, I'll let you suggest to him that he's a
hillbilly processed meat-stick.

hmmm.....well, I've met the person, but strongly suspect that both could be
true.

You do that on purpose just to get a long thread going in your name, don't
you...

19 days from now we'll be fishing the trough, or thereabouts, just getting
settled in..

recently, one of the system operators on a listserv i subscribe to chided
me for bottom-posting my replies. here is one of the responses to the
discussion when i explained the so-called convention of bottom-posting:

You might not be scrolling down far enough to find the message, Rick. I
thought Jeff wasn't responding several times, because of the original
email coming first. No telling how many of his messages I missed that
way. I correspond with people all over the country and the world, partly
as a team member for website design and upkeep on two servers.. I think
the midwesterner who chewed Jeff out is seriously in the minority with
his views on"netiquette." And, like Ann Marie, I find that response style
inconvenient. Of the eight computers and phones I use for email, none has
that default setting for email replies, either. Which just goes to show
that there may be many ways to do this.

Enjoy the weekend,
Leslie Rawls

Well, to be clear, Cindy will probably be stuck back at camp with Sarge for
the day as he is even more unwelcome on Yellowstone trails than he is in
general. And its not that I *want* to do Slough Crick, its a holy
obligation, a mission from gawdawmighty, a necessariance. Can we pencil in
Monday the 10th? You, me, the other Finn, and ????

I prefer the second meadow, if there are no objections.

And as long as making demands, setting dates, and being bossy in general,
how about we appoint you or Makela chauffeur as my big 'ol truck will be
commandeered for other destinations? I will volunteer to be chief back-seat
driver or navigator though.

Danl

And I promise not to snore too much on the road...Let's leave early...it's
more than 2 hours to the trailhead and another 1.5 to 2 hours to second
meadow.
