The reason has to be faults in our nature. Since the repeal of the
fairness doctrine in brodcasting it has gotten worse. The current sad
state of affairs correlates with the arrival of Rush Limbaugh on radio.
It's a sad comment on us as a people that there is a market for hate.


There has always been a market for hate in the US: look
at the KKK's history for 80-odd years. It is difficult to avoid
inter-tribal conflict in a nation that is the sum of many tribes
with (relatively) recent memories of other pasts. And Rush
is simply the latest incarnation of a lineage that stretches
back to folks like Father Conklin and the pro-German Bund
activists of the 30's and early 40's.
