Do you guys use insect repellent when your fishing ?

Any problems with it repelling fish, if it gets on your lures ?

The reason I'm asking is I got a call from a company that swears their
insect repellent actually could be used as a fish attractant on lures,
they are sending me some for testing. If this stuff works for me ? I
may need a couple of you guys to test it as well, if your interested ?

I'll give it an even shake, but if I get bit by a fish I'll sue.... LOL.

Thanks Bob, they sent me some out today, I'll let you know. I'm going to
be using it,, both on me and the lures, if it keeps the bugs at bay, and
I still catch fish , I will send you a bottle,, you don't have to spray
your lures, just use it, and see if you catch fewer fish,, If this
works, I think the guy may have something here.

I've tried several products but the only thing that really
works is Deet. Deet will melt a plastic fly line and render
any fly it touches totally unusable for trout fishing, but
it's the only insect repellant that works. I buy 100% Deet
in spray-on bottles so I can spritz it on without getting
it on my hands.

If the stuff you get works on dense swarms of black flies,
clouds of mosquitos and countless no-see-ums as well as
Deet, I'd be very surprised but interested in giving it a
try. After you. ;-)

They swear it does,, but I won't believe it till I see it,, I'll put you
on the list to get some, you can probably give it a better test than me.

DEET is a heckuva product but it will also eat through expensive
electronic unit/depth finder screens, waders and other expensive
plastics/rubbers. Thats probably bc it contain tuolene, something
that is used in paint remover.

I usually use Off! Deep Woods for Sportsmen and it contains 30%
deet. It's messy, stinks ya up good, doesn't taste well on a sandwich
(late at night) and is something that needs washed up from you as soon
as you get off of the water. And, unless it's 30 minutes before or
after dusk in the swamps of Florida, it does the job of keeping
mosquitoes off of you.

Deet isn't recommended for kids. However, there is a product
called OFF! Skintastic that has a small amount of Deet (7%) which
comes in a spray bottle that does a good job keeping mosquitoes away
from the children...if they are in a serious mosquito situation. If
we're out immediately before or after dusk...that's what we use for
our kids.

However, if it's just general preventative mosquito care, Avon
sells a product called "Skin-So-Soft" which contains citronella oil
that is really pretty good, IMO, and doesn't contain any DEET. Its a
great product for kids and anyone else who can't stand any DEET.

IMO, DEET and my fishing tackle/lures (especially soft plastics)
do not mix and "now" I'm real careful not to spray in the middle of my
boat (toward my electronics or tackle).

Have you given picardin in "sport" strength a try? I like it, others don't

I love Mega Strike, I get all I want for free, I use it "all" the time,
and promote it everywhere, but "do you" also use it for an insect
repellent ? I would bet you do, how well does it work for you ? Perhaps
I need to tell them to start marketing it for that ?????????????????????

It is a bit thick though, it would take half a tube to coat just your arms

Man,, I'm just trying to find out if a new insect repellent could be
used without having to worry about contaminating your lures, do do this,
(ACTUALLY DO A TRUE TEST, something you know nothing about) I would have
to apply it straight to the lures, I'm not suggesting that others use it
as a fish attractant, but offering some "free" to others to try, to see
if it repels insects as well as deet, without the bad effects of deet.

Don't worry Warren, I won't ever make you try something "new", as
nothing new, is better than what you already use for anything, as no one
can ever come up with something you don't already use, or has personally
come up with. We all know that Nothing is better, or can be made better,
than what Warren uses, or does, when it comes to fishing.
