Obama is a smart guy. So is his very impressive wife.

The dumb person is the one who thinks Obama really does think there are
57 states, just because it came out of his mouth. For smart people, like
Obama, the tongue slips every 100,000 words or so. For Bush, something
vaguely intelligent slips out, every 100,000 words or so.

Yale (where Bush went to school) is famous for being a tough, top-knotch
school that looks the other way for dumb but rich alumni children. Even
Princeton used to do that, not too long ago. Bush fit that Yalie profile
to a T.

But for minority scholarship students, like both Michelle and Barack,
you had to be on top of your game. Smiling and looking the other way was
only offered to children of the Skull and Bones guys.

Hee-hee-hee...you're obviously a Harvard type...

No, Harvard does it too. That's how they get those huge endowments.
If you're a third generation Yalie from an old-rich blue blood
Bentley-driving family, your kids not only get into school, they
don't get bounced either.

I went one year to the Princeton Country Day School, which was
a pretentious wannabe clone of an English public school (back then,
anyway). I remember one 8th grade kid who came to school everyday
in a 3 piece suit, carrying a brief case, delivered by chauffeured
Bentley. And the driver wore one of those funny uniforms too.

I remember that particular kid was an introverted hard worker. They had
a huge stone wall, castle-like mansion out on Stoney Brook, with
majestic iron gates and a long, hedge-lined white gravel driveway.
The also had a mile or more of pristine trout habitat at the upper
reaches of Stoney Brook. I poached out there even then. Which made it
all a bit deliciously ironic.

But there were plenty of ****-off ultra-rich smart-asses there too. It
didn't matter. They were rich and they were going to stay that way no
matter what. And they knew it.

Michelle Obama grew up on on the south side of Chicago.
Emerging from that environment, as she did, was no small achievement.

And while I'm not the expert on Harvard's entrance policies and
procedures that you are on Yale's, I have some personal knowledge of
both. I'd offer that in the 70s and 80s, Obama, being a minority
legacy, had a large headstart to a Harvard admission. While Obama
likes, even encourages (or at the minimum, doesn't discourage) the whole
humble background bit, ala Bill Clinton (and Hillary, depending...), it
is, overall, as much bull**** as Clinton's bull****. And as "they don't
get bounced," you have no idea of about what you speak. IAC, by all
accounts, Bush was an average student, no more, no less, and whatever
"help" you believe his family might have been able to provide was never
needed.

Sounds like a sit-com...

Ah, well, then, that explains the relevance...

The also had a mile or more of pristine trout habitat at the upper
reaches of Stoney Brook. I poached out there even then.

So, let's recap - you were offered a chance to attend a good school and
make friends with a rich hard-working kid who dressed nicely, and
instead, you chose to steal from it and rationalize your failure
there...

Which made it all a bit deliciously ironic.

Ah, so you're still a thief...

But there were plenty of ****-off ultra-rich smart-asses there too. It
didn't matter. They were rich and they were going to stay that way no

And it appears the reasons behind your attitude are exposed...

Michelle Obama grew up on on the south side of Chicago.

More bull****. Given the number of folks to whom such is attributed,
it's a fairly common type of thing. Heck, didn't John Kerry's campaign
even try to pull off some form of the "worked his way up...outta the
Hamptons" crapola.

IAC, the bottom line is that while schools like Harvard and Yale (and
really, all schools) generally have an admissions policy, even if
unofficial, that favors legacies, they don't pass out degrees for kicks,
and those who are graduated weren't just handed one because they are a
legacy. And if you think they do, that doesn't say much for the school,
and therefore, much about either Obama's degree.

I admire anyone who gets out of the south side....I just question
the intelligence of anyone who goes back. ;-)

The same can be said of Kerry. How come HE is ok but Bush isn't.

As far as Obama's wife - I have no doubt she is intelligent.
However, her remark about never being proud of America will and should
come back to haunt her. And that was no slip of the tongue.

Perceptive and thoughtful statements always do.

And that was no slip of the tongue.

Precisely.
