I have a similar clasue in my policy, but it lists the perils that they

will
pay for. One of the perils is theft. They do not list "loss of use by
mistake or misdiretion". My understaning is that the disappearance of

your
bag after it is checked does not necessarily constitute theft. Did your
agent put his interpretation into writing?

No, and now that you mention it, I'm going to go back and read the fine
print. Coverage from being lost by the airlines is one thing I wanted to
have covered, specifically. However, I do know from recent experience that
they will cover the loss of fly gear stolen out of the trunk of a rental
car.

At first, my new agent said that you always have coverage equal to 10% of
your personal property value for loss by misdirection, etc.. After bugging
her, she is now not sure about a loss where there is not evidence of theft.
I believe that a lot of these agents don't know what they are offering. I
am also pressing her about a rider for "loss". She came up with one
called" Inland and Marine" but it was $250 per year. A friend of mine who
has a different insurance carrier was able to get a rider for just a few
bucks.
