A survey of both the number and the quality of posts to ROFF has confirmed
what many have suspected for many months. ROFF is officially in an intellectual recession. "It seems as people have just stopped investing mental capital in the ROFF market place. Long years of fear developed as nearly ever investment has met with down spiraling nastiness seem to have caused people to move to other markets, or simply bide their time hoping for improvement before risking further capital." said a source that wishes to remain anonymous. |

Some things are more or less inevitable, once such a trend develops, it is likely to continue in a descending spiral. Once people lose interest in countering it, mainly because their efforts are ineffectual at best, or because they see no point in fighting it anyway, or indeed any effective way to actually do so, the spiral tightens until the trend reaches its conclusion. Many people also simply lose interest as the spiral tightens downwards, and thus tighten the spiral even further. This of course accelerates the trend. You can **** off all the sensible people some of the time, and some of the sensible people all of the time, but the nature of such a spiral ensures that you will eventually **** of all the sensible people for all time. In this particular case, nobody, apart from a few individuals externally affected as a result of nastiness overflowing from ROFF, actually loses much, there are plenty of excellent alternatives to ROFF, most especially for interested anglers, and it is a good sign really that sensible people eventually eschew nastiness completely, realising as they do that it is completely contra-productive. Anything worth saving would have saved itself. What many people also realise too late in a loose configuration of individuals such as ROFF was, is that personal attacks and general nastiness are not simply attacks on individuals, but in fact attacks on the configuration itself. Even tightly knit configurations can not withstand such inside pressure for long. TL MC |

Which of course is the reason why practically all moderated boards
specifically prevent certain behaviour, and ban certain individuals as a matter of course. They would otherwise suffer similar fates. TL MC |

Wow. Other fishing sites where the content is smarter AND sweeter than ROFF?. Im impressed. Sign me up. Care to share the names of these wondrous sites? See, Ive been under the delusion that a problem endemic to middle-aged men particularly retired execs, is that many are so used to getting by with unchallenged, sloppy thinking, and being deferred to without the obligation to present the reasoning for their thinking, . . . that any questioning of their ideas, or even exposure to alternative viewpoints in a free-wheeling exchange induces apoplexy in their stuffed shirts. Such folks also seem to have problems with questioning coming from women, worker bees, young people and uppity folk of the minority persuasions. Boy oh Boy, if I could just find a fishing group like you say exists. Somewhere with posts newer that a few years old, somewhere with posts not cherry-picked from ROFF, somewhere with posts not dominated by a Know-it-all legend in their own mind . Somewhere with posts that did not exclude anything outside the world of fishing. Somewhere where many of the posters were not avatars, but actual people who occasionally got together to fish and socialize. Somewhere where adults could vigorously argue fishing topics and lots of other stuff. Somewhere where a pain-in-the-ass could be told to ****-off, without inducing a blood feud. Such a site would not be for everyone, certainly not for the insecure, not for the wall flower, not for the authority bound. Hummmmm is that ROFF? Dave Yep, it is for me. |

Yeah, certain individuals like you, for instance. Heh heh, I am welcome on very many boards Kenny boy, not least as a result of my very extensive angling knowledge, and I am liked and respected by a great many people. I have not heard of anybody with even a modicum of sense who likes or respects you. You can´t help being nasty apparently, it is simply your nature. Just like a rattlesnake can´t help its nature. There is no point in hating a rattlesnake just because it is a rattlesnake, but it is sensible to avoid them, even if one is unable to ignore them. As for your nastiness, Quod erat demonstrandum.......... How many boards do you contribute to? I know of none, and over the years I have contributed to very many. Now I wonder why that is? |
