ya know, this discussion has me thinking...

does anyone know what causes toenails to thicken and to become tough to
cut? ...

A C&K "purist" would not necessarily eat every fish he catches (no
matter how disgusting it might be), but he would certainly kill every
fish he catches (no matter how illegal it might be).

Right... which is why I said I'm "pretty close"... because it would be
extremely rare for someone to meet the literal "purist" definition.

Actually, you do bring up a good point though... I think C&K is the wrong
description, it should be catch and eat. That describes what I do. If it's
illegal, or too small, I release it. However, if it's large enough, I'll
eat it... with few exceptions.

Omega 3 fatty acid deficiency.

If their all kinda yellow and such, going unshod out in the sun will
help......it's a fungus, and it don't like UV.

Age. Get used to it. Same goes for the hair growing out of your ears and
your nose.

Thyroid can do it. Though most people get the more objectionable (to
them) one of thin finger and toe nails with easy splitting, peeling,
and breaking.

You can't call them really thick and tough until you have to soak them
for 10 to 20 minutes before trying to use the clippers on them.

If it's just the big toes, your shoes may be too short. If it's just
a few of the toes, fungus might be present.

Often taunted by trout.
Only a fool would refuse to believe in luck. Only a damn fool would rely on it.

Are they a darker color? Their is a fungus that causes this. They get
really thick, and a different color. The only way to cure it is to take
a medicine that is really expensive and possibly bad for your liver,
forget the name.

Just did a google, you can find the info at

Look at the bright side, at least there's one thing that gets harder as you
age.

Just curious, if you catch an especially big fish for the water you're
fishing do you keep it?
