today, i was experimenting, so i held my bait(in know-bad word!) just above
the surface of the water, and made a redbreast sunfish jump up for it! very
much fun!

And LOOKIT what you caught!

Very nice report.....thanks.

thanks, wolfgang

whoa, hold up there wolfgang. you wouldn't want anyone to get too excited,
now. ;-)

can't remember if i posted it to roff or not, because i know if i did i
hesitated, roff being a ff ng and all, but i caught my first trout the other
day. it was about 12", a speckled according to a passing hiker. that was
all it took. i didn't want to put it back in the water- i loved the way it
felt in my hand. i was hooked (no pun intended). i also caught two
redbreast sunfish (*stunning)*, and what i think were 3 small rainbows.
caught them in a stream in one of the parks on the blue ridge parkway. a
very productive day. i can't believe how gorgeous these creatures are.
today i was out on one of the lakes, and only caught a catfish- not very
big, but it was cool. i stroked it and turned it over in my hand to examine
it. it was much smoother than i would have expected, although it's fins
were sharp. last night i caught a brim in the same lake.
anyway, if i already posted something to this effect, go easy on me.
ya'll can be def on somebody over that ****!
and i promise ya'll, i will have a ff report to post before the summer is
over.

Giving in to the temptation to handle a fish is easy enough to understand
and forgive in a beginner. Not good for the fish, though. What makes them
all slippery and smooth is a protective slime coat. The slime inhibits
various parasites and infective agents. Removing any of it by excess
handling increases the risk of disease and mortality. Makes your hands
smell funny too.

"Speckled" is another name for the brook trout, Salvelinus fontinalis. As
George mentioned somewhere recently, it is among the most beautiful of
fishes in the fall. Do not miss the opportunity to see one then.

thanks for the tip. i appreciate it, as i want to do as little harm as

true that-when i came in from that trip when i caught the trout, my neighbor
knew immidiatly i had been successful. :-)

I find it interesting (and telling, at least to me) that one of your
insults of choice is the implication of homosexuality.

Well, sure you do! And so do I. And so does everyone else in ROFF, given
that they have absolutely nothing else to think about. Still, I can't help
but think there might be a few people somewhere in the world who disagree,
otherwise......well, otherwise it would all be ROFF, wouldn't it?

(and telling, at least to me) that one of your
insults of choice is the implication of homosexuality.

Hm.....and what exactly does it tell you? I mean, three possibilities
spring readily to mind. It could be that I'm homophobic or that I'm
actually in the closet myself (after all, I've never actually come out and
claimed in a public forum that I'm homosexual, right?) or it could be that I
simply have a good understanding of Kennie's tastes. So, which one is
it?.......um.....or is there yet another possibility that I've missed?

Oh gawd, the gruesome gnome is back and, disproving one of the
standard canards prevalent on roff, a week of 'Clave camaraderie
has left him every bit as much a ****ing jerk today as the day
he left.

Oh gawd,

Nice touch, that. Very extended pinky......very foppish. Oh to be able to
write like that!

Well, that's gratitude for ya. I got Loehman, Findley , AND Barnard
watching your back for you!

Wolfgang
and no, it was not difficult.
