... "Doug Kanter" wrote in message ... "Wolfgang" wrote in message ... "Doug Kanter" wrote in message ... Nicely said. And best of all, I understand now why you think my scouting saga was full of exaggeration: The post was longer than yours. Sorry, Wolfgang. Next time I'm inclined to write something that long, I'll break it into smaller, individual posts. Break it into individual letters distributed at random and the enterprising reader will be able to do something useful with it. Wolfgang and, for the indolent, it will flush easier. Specifically, which parts do you believe were exaggerated? The part between "He knew..." and "...kill himself." Verisimilitude is the name of the game. Absolute and eternal perfection in the face of an adversary's universal and irredeemable incompetence is a tough sell because it's impossible to swallow. If the hero cannot possibly fail.....if he is indisputably invincible....and everybody knows it, no one will ever buy the movie rights. Samson had his hair, Achilles his heel, Superman his kryptonite. Nevertheless, I'd bet a shiny new nickel you can't whup all their asses at the same time. Wolfgang ......yawn..... |

Simple, direct and, best of all, plausible. MUCH better! Wolfgang see how easy it is? ![]() |

![]() Wolfgang wrote: Former Boy Scouts, almost to a man, will testify (and do) that they are better men for the experience. I beg leave to remind them of the advice given to his son by John Andrew Holmes: "It is well to remember that the entire universe, with one trifling exception, is composed of others." My gradeschool and neighborhood were lily white and middle class. Scouts gave me my first contacts with kids of other ethnic and economic backgrounds. Willi |

![]() Doug Kanter wrote: He knew how to pitch a tent when he was 3, although obviously, he needed help because of his height. But, he understood the order of things and was able to help by assembling parts and having them ready. He knew the pattern for which things went into building a campfire (kindling, small wood, large wood) by the same age, although obviously, he wasn't lighting matches at that age. But most important, he was well on his way to understanding that a position of authority in no way indicates competence. And, he knew that it doesn't take 38 hands to do something more easily done by two or three people working together. He learned these things from his mom and I. Your child is/was a VERY gifted child! Those are not the type of things that a typical 3 year old would be able to learn. Funny....he's been tying textbook-perfect knots since he was a toddler and those knots have never failed. Not once. Or maybe even an adult! It's too bad Scouting didn't work out for you and your son. Willi |

The staff initial their work, of course, but by the time it's cleaned up, transcribed and delivered to me I have no idea who the author of any individual piece is. What's more, I really don't care......I don't have to care.....I pay them. Wolfgang well......maybe. |
