I fished all the way up from the Texas hole to the cable hole. I'm not sure what you are calling the currents, but - as I said - I didn't see anyone fish the way you describe or any fish deformed the way you describe. ... If you fished the Kiddie Hole and didn't see any deformed fish then you must have got skunked at the Kiddie Hole. Louie's right, Kiddie Hole fishing isn't even sportsmanlike. I hired a guide, the Camo Man, to teach me how to fish the San Juan on my first day there. He took me to the Kiddie Hole and taught me that if you go three drifts without a fish, you must have slime on your fly. That's how easy it is to catch fish there. It's a joke. I showed Dan'l, who at that time was a tyro, what the Camo Man showed me (right before I performed a spectacular 5 star full Reid in the December chill) and he was able to slay them too. That ain't fly fishing (no offense to Dan'l). -- Ken Fortenberry |

I didn't see any mangled fish except those caught at the Kiddie Hole and a few caught in the braids. When the fish school up by your feet you should move so they take up their feeding stations again. Which means you are going to be constantly moving. I saw people that were fishing for the fish *at their feet*, hence my remarks about it not being fly fishing. I spent about an hour in the braids and five minutes at the KH and I didn't enjoy it. I did, however, enjoy the main river that contained a pretty good current and caught some very nice fish there. -- Charlie... |
