At least have the buyer pay the listing fee, a bid is a contract. I have had
quite a few people bid then write to tell me of this and that happened and
they changed their minds etc etc. The sad part is there is no way of telling
who is legit when it comes to non paying bidders and while I sympathize with
them, they must understand that it cost you money to sell on e-bay as well.
Most are very understanding and will pay listing and final value
fees.....that is if you can not recoup the F.V.F from e-bay.

Not five minutes after the auction closed the top bidder sent me an e-mail
claiming they could not pay for it because of a family emergency. I guess
I
just wasted the hundred bucks in misc listing fees. According to NADA
that
is the value of the boat without a motor. Their loss, but I still need to
sell the boat in order to make the down payment on the new boat I want to
get.

Actually this subject of a contract when bidding has come up before.
According to Ebay, it is not a legally enforceable contract. The buyer still
has the right not to purchase upon actually physically seeing and inspecting
the property. Ebay will let you re-list at no additional fee once you, the
seller, contact Ebay and inform them of the problem with the purchaser. Ebay
will contact the buyer to confirm. Then allow the seller to relist.

It's still a pain in the a$$ for the seller who has to pay the seller
fees, final value fees and everything else. I have no problem not paying for
a big ticket item if it was misrepresented to begin with, many items are on
E-bay. But many people get caught up in a bidding war just to screw over
their competition for an item with no intent of paying, some have written me
saying they put a big bid in because they thought it wouldn't go past a
certain amount, only to find out it did an they were the winning bidder, now
they don't want the item, or want it for less and most second chance offers
I have sent out were ignored because they always wonder why the winnning
bidder didn't want it. Ebay can be real good for both buyers and sellers,
but there are a lot of kooky people in this world that do things for reasons
I can't understand...Like wear a dress on a fishing bet :-) Buyer
beware...Seller beware

That's tough. How much you wanna bet the family emergency was the wife's
phone call to a divorce attorney?

Offer it to the second highest bidder at the winning price...

Wouldn't the dealer give you at least that much on a trade-in?
