And you had no idea what you would be fishing in fresh water for, which fly would you take? Padishar Creel Dumb question or not, I would pick a size 10 black wooley bugger and/or a size 14 yellow humpy and a beadhead prince nymph (or a gold ribbed hares ear in place of the prince). See, can't pick just one fly! |

First off, who would go on a fishing trip and have no idea what they'd be fishing for ? And second, why would you take only one fly ? Geezus, this post would be too dumb even in the middle of North American winter when we all have cabin fever and *WELCOME* dumb posts. Me, I'd take a $20 bill fly, that way once I got there I could buy the right flies. Or maybe get a nice close shave. Wolfgang |

Chris By the way, has anybody else every heard of the single fly competition? |

"Ken Fortenberry" espoused his normal remarks by saying, That's a dumb
question. --------------- Ken, several fly fishing clubs hold a single fly competition yearly as well as some major fly fishing competition events (such as the link below). Adding the, no idea what species you are fishing for or the type of water, is an idea for my area because we have so many species within a single day's trip. It certainly would add a bit or challenge to an already established tradition, wouldn't it?. http://www.jacksonholenet.com/events...ly_contest.php Chris |

OK, so I have to look like a smat ass and pick one of my flies, but the weamer pattern has taken more different species for me than any other fly. So there . . . Padishar Creel Sorta in the "what the hell?" camp, but to answer, a bucktail and whatever hackle is handy mess of my own making that catches panfish. TC, R ....oh, lawdy, can the "survival fly" thang be far behind... |

Much underrated--or forgotten--fly. I've settled into a rut when it comes to tool flies, usually opting these days for a tungsten-headed Prince in #12 or 14, or a #6-10 stonefly nymph (often a quasi-Kaufmann's but usually a Brooks). I need to be remembering the girdle bug more for this purpose. Many days a stone killer on the Deschutes. JR |
