I tried them and I didn't like the way they held water and
splashed. They turn over real nice but whatever advantage
they offer in delicate presentation is ruined by the splash.

Just got the Feather Craft catalog, and they have a full page with these.

I'd rather apologize to a conservative on ROFF than spend my hard earned
money with one of the most over-rated sterile fly shops in the country. You
want a real flyshop in St Louis, turn right out of the Feather Craft Parking
lot, drive about two miles and turn left at the gnome.

Pros/cons? Worth the extra few bucks?

And to answer the original question, no they are not worth the extra bucks.

I tried them, both braided nylon and furled thread. Went back to knotless
tapers in the same season. I modify these to suit my needs, and find them
better than the others I have tried. They are also cheaper.

I'm just outside of Chicago. Actually found a nice 'new to me' shop today
just a little south of me.

Thanks,
Dan

I tried furled leaders and didn't stick with them very long ... they cast
better than they fish ... if that makes sense to you G

Well, they're not all THAT bad!

I have two rods from Tom Hargrove's, but today when I needed to stock up on
odds and ends to entertain the NC trout next week I went to Feathercraft.
They're both fine places, although Tom's is much more traditional and you
probably get better advice.

If you want a really sterile place, you could turn right out of
Feathercraft, drive about a mile and turn right again and soon you'd be at
an Orvis store.

Bob
(Who now feels guilty about not supporting the place that gives better
advice . . .)

Have you ever seen Tom's custom rod work? Even though Tom is a friend, I
base my opinion on something that happened when I was visiting St. Louis and
Tom sent me there for something he was out of. But if nothing else Tom has a
bar for his customers.

Oh yea, the clothing store with a few rods near the REI, yuck.

Where outside of Chicago? There were some decent shops in LaGrange (I think
they moved to the next town over), Glenn Ellyn, and two good ones in the
North suburbs. Chicago Fly Fishing Outfitters was not there when I lived
there but I've been in there once and it seemed decent enough. Heck even the
downtown Orvis store had woman who worked in there and really knew her
stuff.

Used one for the first time last week. It does turnover better, but I did
not notice that it fished better or worse because of the "splash" mentioned
by others. Then again I wasn't fishing especially "fine" either. Ill have to
see.
