![]() wrote in message oups.com... Steve, A pretty good friend of mine has one.. I have never ridden in it, but he claims it's a good rough water boat, although he has never had it on Erie. I can send you some pictures of the boat if you'd like. I'd be leary of the lack of dealer support.......... Jack I'd like to see some pictures Jack, you have my address to send them to. The president of the company called me last night to talk about the boat. He claims that because the hull is based on an off-shore racing design, that I could run 70+ mph in 2-3 footers with a smooth and dry ride! I asked him about Great Lakes running and he didn't feel that would be a problem either! We'll have to see about that, I've been on Superior and Erie and know what can occur there. -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |

![]() Because they're over 20 feet, the Coast Guard cannot restrict the horsepower, so they're rated "Unlimited". I was told that I can expect to get into the mid to upper 80's with a 250 Merc. None of the boats have carpeting, I asked about that. What I was told is that the boats are so aerodynamic that they cannot find an adhesive that will keep the boat carpet glued down for a reasonable length of time. All the boats they've carpeted have had the carpet come loose. So they grit coat the walking surfaces for traction. I'm supposed to get a CD that has more information about the boat, it's hull, design features etc. -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com Holy Moly....the carpeting gets ripped off this boat??? Steve, I'd ask about the length of the passenger "tethers", or at least you better glance over occasionally to make sure you haven't lost your client!!!! LOL Seriously , though, what about insurance and at what cost. I believe some companies will not insure Allisons, Gamblers, and some similarly constructed (I think Kevlar in the construction), hi-perf hulls. When I insured my Champion 202 w/ 225 Merc.with Hartford Insurance Co. they had many questions about use, performance, and top end speed, and driving habits. I had to assure them that at the age of 50 and living in FL, that I generally do not exceed 40mph even in the fast lane, and usually have my left turn signal on constantly. Wait a minute.....were they talking about the boat? |

Yeah, Bob, we get'em alot rougher than that. In last years
Everstart out of Cleveland, the first day we had honest 10+ft waves. Alot of guys ran 10 miles and went into port and called for their trailers. I ran 35 miles (one way), it took 3 hours to get there, fished for 45 minutes and started back. I had 17lbs, killed the entire catch in the rough waters, got a 2 1/2 lb. penalty and was in 8th place. I was trying to make arrangements to run the Fast Cat in this tournament, but I didn't want to drive an unfamiliar boat in those conditions. My old 1995 19ft Skeeter went by many a 20+ft Champion and Rangers. But then again, driving in extreme conditions is usually about the driver........ A funny story that happened during this tournament. We were launching for day 3 (top 10 only) and they had the Yamaha tech there. He came over to me and asked what year was my motor. I told him it was a 1995 Pro-V 150.......he said "don't break down, I don't have any parts for that thing". Then he asked me how many times it was rebuilt, I told him "Never". He was amazed......... On Lk. Erie, if it says 2 - 3 footers, we add 'em up to get the right size.

![]() "Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers" wrote in message ... I'm selling my beloved Cobra this year and I've had some contact with FastCat Marine. Has anyone heard anything about these boats, good or bad? http://www.fastcatmarine.com Can't comment on the brand Steve, but I did spend 9 hours on a "cat" at Oregon Inlet on New Years Eve doing some striper fishing (I posted photo links here, about the 42lb striper) and I can't recall it's brand, but the model was "Awesome 22", it had twin 115 Suzuki 4 strokers on it. It is a center console, and had a leaning post/livewell deal in the middle, and T-top covering the whole helm area. And I have to say, that I was pleasantly surprised at the ride that a tunnel hull produces. Coming off the backs of swells at speed, you could feel the cushion of air soften the landing on the other side. The day I decide to get me a real ocean going boat, I will certainly consider a tunnel/cat hull if I am not in a position to get the Fountain 38' Sportfish Cruiser that I really want.... I saw one on the local lake this past summer and it is an interesting
design and I liked it. Didn't see it on the trailor but on the water looked good. It was over 20' long and 8' something wide, center console and the deck is all nonskid molded into the fiberglass. It had a Merc 250 and the owner said he had it pushing 80 MPH with trottle to spare. It was pricey over 50K, and with no dealer in NO. CA. was another 3/4K for destination charges. Good luck if you get one Steve.. sket |

No I have never heard of them but it is a ugly boat ![]() ![]() I through you had a couple of buyers??guess not ![]() Oh no, the boat is sold, just waiting for delivery. It's certainly a different looking boat, a pickle-fork, tunnel hull offshore racing hull with fishing platforms and livewells! I haven't seen one in person, but I've heard the construction is second to none and they're extremely stable in rough water and high speeds. But that's all I've heard. The fastcat doesn't look like a really aggressive pickle fork. I rode in one one time that was laid out as a bass boat, and there was 30 inches or more of sponson sticking out in front of the trolling motor on each side. That boat made me wonder how tunnels got such a good rep for rough water ride. It was both rough AND wet. But it sure did fly! I've since ridden in a few that were much better rides, but they didn't have that exaggerated fork look. |

Yeah, it's not an aggressive forked front end, but a hull design that originated in racing and has been modified for fishing. I'm still waiting for the CD that Jerry has sent me. It's supposed to have much more data on the boat than is listed in the website. I'm not sure that it's the boat for me, but I'll keep an open mind and weigh all the factors of the boat. It is interesting, I've always been interested in performance boats, and from all reports, this IS a high performance boat. But, I'm not going to sacrifice fishability just to go fast. Fishing is still the reason for having the boat, but I believe that getting there should be part of the fun too! -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |
