duc--i just picked up a 4piece 9'5wt scott, after comparing it with
several of the usual suspects (no thomas, though), and have found it to be
remarkably easy to cast.

I like the medium action - good for fishing out by Yellowstone, and very easy to
roll cast with. g I have an 8' 4wt I use a lot around here.

Winston WT 5wt 8'6"

Can't say that I'm an experienced gear *hore, but that rod seems to be
the favorite of some experienced Winston fans as well:

Winston makes good rods. Used to anyway.
But after what the did to Glenn Brackett
et al, I'd never consider buying another Winston anything.
Besides, they're making them in China now, but still
trying to charge as if they were hand made in Montana.

If everyone could please post your favorite Fly Rod Brand--try to limit
your answer to 2 rods only--and feel free to post any other comments.

My favorite because I fish smaller streams a lot is my LL Bean 7.5' 4 wt. I
was told it's a Loomis blank of some sort. My favorite for bigger Western
rivers is a Sage 9' 5 wt.

Mr. Brackett quit, he was not fired.

Winston anything. Besides, they're making them in China now, but still

The lower cost rods are made in Asia as are the Temple Forks, most, if not
all of Cabelas and even St. Croix's entry level fly rod. The Premium Winston
rods are made in Montana.

Dis Winston if you want over the cane bru-ha-ha but get your story straight
at least.

Sage 590 RPL 2 piece. Although I have since bought a fews rods that negat
my use of that first great sage rod, I will never part with it. Will make
for a good rod for the boys to break in on. Great all around rod, not in
the same class as the SP for line control, but got the job done for 10 +
years of constant use. Made the great leap in understanding the difference
better equipment can make and then the SP matched that leap, two fold, years
later. Still a proponent that you don't need the best equipment to be the
best fisherman, but it can help reduce the work you need to exert, having a
perfectly matched rod.

What are you fishin' with these days?

When the conditions are right, Thomas and Thomas Paradigm 8 foot 3 weight
two piece. For me, the smoothest tool possible for a cast that's hard on a
rod. Enough backbone to land 19-20 inch fish w/light tippet, but light,
and delicate, enough to cast all but the very micro sized flies.

I have too admit both the SP and Paradigm are a bit overpriced for me right
out of the store. If you've got the cash to throw around, they're
guaranteed to thrill, but was able to pick up both of them a few years ago
for a very modest price by using the greatest idea of the 21st century thus
far, EBay, or I still may be casting nymphs with that old RPL.

All right the premium rods are still made in montana.
I did say they made good rods.

I also said they can kiss my ass because of the way they treated my
friend Glenn Brackett. I won't detail the reasons he had to be ****ed
off. He had many.

Anyone who still defends the company can kiss my ass too.
