Thanks for all of interesting comments. Now I know I'm not alone. I too have
started to enjoy fly fishing but will take out a bait caster or a spinning rod if the conditions were more appropriate. Wouldn't it be something to win or place in a club tournament using only fly fishing equipment. Anyone think this is possible? "Richard Liebert" wrote in message ... Anyone use a fly rod for bass out there? |

It might be possible, but if I remember correctly, there's a maximum rod length for tournament fishing. I think that rods over 8' are not allowed and most fly rods suitable for bass fishing are longer than that. -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |

You're right Steve -- about the length of fly rods that is. I have no idea
about tournament restrictions, but most of us use 9 footers. However -- back before graphite rods came in, most of used 8-foot rods because our arms and wrists would get tired, swinging a heavy 9-foot fiberglass rod all day long. You'd be slightly handicapped using a shorter rod, but you can still throw a bass bug with an 8-foot rod. The biggest bass I ever caught on a fly rod came on my old home-made, 3-piece rod built on a Herter blank. It had metal ferrules and by today's standards was a piece of junk. But I caught thousands of fish on it -- mostly bluegills and white bass -- and any number of bass.and big carp (yes -- carp will take flies) Biggest bass was just over 6 pounds. I use a 9/5 a lot, but my favorite fly rod is a 7.5/4. It's a Lamiglass 3 pc
Appalachian blank. I built it myself, which is probably why it is my favorite. "Rob Storm" wrote in message ... You're right Steve -- about the length of fly rods that is. Yes, I fish with a fly rod all the time for bass. It's great. I tie spun deer
hair bugs and poppers. Streamers work well also. Fly rod is the best way to take bass as far as I'm concerned. Bill |

I agree, I do tie my own flies. Spun Deer Hair Bugs and Poppers tying is
really an art. You must tie some nice ones. I have done a few...they work for me and the fish take them.....LOL When I go bass fishing around here with my friends, one of them competes in tournaments. I can catch just as many with my flyrod has he does with his bait caster. Not saying one method is better than the other. I just prefer the flyrod. {:O) Thanks MIKE "Confused426" wrote in message ...
