If you guys had to pick one bait to use in clear water to get a limit,
what would it be?

One of my hand-poured "senko" knockoffs, in 4"-6". Probably something in
green or blackish (methiolate or motor oil) color with prismatic red-flecks
in clear water, or "red shad" if *any* color is present in the water. I've
actually had some good success with "clear" worms with blue/black/red flake
this year in clearer water (seems to resemble the local lizards color in the
water). I crush up the salt really well before mixing it in, and it seems to
get the buoyancy just right, they fall like a champ through the water when
wacky rigged.

I'd try it wacky rigged at first in clear water, but would not hesitate to
move to a t-rig or pegged t-rig with a light weight in a minute if wacky
riggin' didn't work this time of year. If the fish were deep enough, I'd
also try drop-shotting it before giving up and moving to a jig/trailer or
spinnerbait.

If I was out here in South Dakota or back in Canada where the bass are naive
and under fished I would go with a 1/4 oz Secret Weapon Spinner Bait with a
Firetiger skirt and a Chartreuse blade. Any pressured water it would be a
Green Pumpkin Tube. Joe Z.

Joe, if I was back here in heavily-fished clear water, I would target the
real lunkers by slow rolling a 5/16 oz. Secret Weapon Tennessee Shad
spinnerbait setup with double white #3.5 WL blades. I would also be darned
sure to avoid using sissy lines & instead use a small diameter braid type
line like 20# Power Pro. Those big bass will self-hook themselves, & you
better be prepared to land them.

A 4" watermellon green tube with copper flake. Course you didn't
mention if this clear water had lilly pads growing in it. Then it would
be a scumfrog.

You are so right on the braid Bob. I won't leave home without it. Especially
with all the toothy critters in Canada. I got out of the braid habit over
here because pike are few and far between. Today the SW Firetiger did it
again 0-8ft and a Firetiger Berkeley crank on the deeper points. Joe Z.

Now, the post title says 'Favorite bait' then the question asked inside is
about your most productive bait in clear water. Very misleading post I must
say.

My 'Favorite bait' would have to be a spinnerbait...ummm, no, buzzbait,
no.... ummm spinnerbait for sure, no wait, buzzbait definitely buzzbait. ok,
that's a tough one.

My most productive clear water bait would have to be a spinnerbait with a
shad skirt with 2 to 4 willow blades, gold for cloudy days, nickel for the
sunny ones.
