Very true...

Money: Bandwidth costs .... advertisers are there but not to the degree
commonly believed ... a buzy website costs a lot to get hosted

again true. The project would be time consuming to maintain and
update. It is a good idea though, it is just a hard job

I had a "user built" website based on retrievers that grew fairly large

Thanks Larry. Yes, I maintain a boat building forum that takes
a lot of work. I have to filter input, to keep malicious attempts
to inject javascript re-directors, to phishing sites and even worse.
The bad stuff comes from automated bots, not from real users.

Most boat builders are a cooperative lot. In six years of
maintaining the boat building forum I've never yet had a single
flame war. When you spend 3 thousand dollars and commit
six months to building a boat, it takes commitment.
Fly Tiers the same?

Income? That's the real rub. Online advertizing looks good
at first glance, but traffic that brings advertizing income also
brings added monthly bandwidth costs. MySpace and UTube
seem to be making money on hot air and speculation more than anything
real. FlyFace.com might someday grow to something like a thousandth of
one one percent of their traffic....well, not even that much.

I think you'd have to charge a yearly subscription fee, which
I doubt anyone would be willing to pay.

Hi everyone, I've created a free fly pattern program called FlySource
to aid fly tying enthusiasts in maintaining a catalog of fly patterns.
It even allows you to find and share patterns using peer-to-peer
technology. It is simple to install and very easy to use.

Those of you looking for a way to catalog, print, and share fly
patterns might find it useful and interesting.

Check it out at http://www.flysource.net if you are interested.

I may try it again, but I could never get it to "connect," much less login?

Hey, no problem! If anyone else is having trouble connecting, please
contact me. The number one issue so far with connecting has been with
people using the wrong user id or password!
