I'm looking forward to playing with the system but per the local Apple store, there's not a newsreader in the pre-loaded software. I've ordered the Mac version of stuff like Office, and such but what would the Roffian apple user recommend for newsgroups and stuff like photo editing? Thunderbird for an email and newgroup client. The Safari web browser that comes with your iMac is good, but I use Firefox and I like it. Free downloads at http://www.mozilla.org/. BTW, you're not going over to the darkside. You're coming out of it into the light. It's like giving a glass of ice water to a man in hell. -- Cut "to the chase" for my email address. |

I'm a software developer/designer, so my criteria might be somewhat different. But I doubt it. Windows is enormously annoying. Network and device timeouts and time-slicing don't even work (try to do something else while your scanner gets going, for instance). I like linux for a development platform; Mac for office and surfing around. Winblows is so bad it's hard to figure out how it ever succeeded. Ah, oh. I forgot. It's the magic of the marketplace. :-) |
