This was a classic Greek Tragedy of an object lesson, no fix required ;-) I vote for the "it's just me" answer, and think we must have been watching different games. The Giants had the Pats offense on their heels from early in the game. Their blitzes were near-flawless, and the Pats abandoned the offense that got them to the bowl in the first place. It was a great game that kept me watching all the way to the last seconds. Ditto, my thoughts on the game were just as yours. The Giants defense rocked, which may have given the perception the Pats were at half speed. JT |

There is no act so good that the Super Bowl Halftime show couldn't ruin. ya know, joey, i thought ol' tom petty did a pretty good job on "free fallin"--of course, that is not the most demanding composition of the last half century, but pretty neat lyrics. Don't get me wrong - I *like* Tom Petty, but there's a time and a place for everything, and the Super Bowl ain't the place for "slow dancing", IMHO. -- TL, Tim ------------------------- http://css.sbcma.com/timj |

This was a classic Greek Tragedy of an object lesson, no fix required ;-) Yeah, I don't think XLII was fixed I think the Giants had a good defensive game plan which they executed to perfection. It's hard for even Tom Brady to be a great QB while sitting on his ass. It seemed to me that the Pat's offensive line was about a half step slower than normal. Just enough to allow the Giant's defense to be rffective. I think they need younger legs on the line. In many of the closeups those guys looked tired right from the get-go. I still think that Brady was bothered by the ankle, and that may have had a lot to do with the plays they chose to run in the first half. Brady has never been the most mobile of QBs but the ankle could have been a factor. I think the more important factor was losing a starting offensive guard early in the game. Offensive lines don't usually have interchangeable parts. One question was answered however......Eli Manning is a legitimate NFL QB. The sad thing is that this was a once in a lifetime chance. The Pat's will have other good seasons and win other Superbowls, but this was their one shot at a perfect season. What was the Patriots record this season ? Eighteen and *D'OH* ;-) One good thing, (maybe), is this game mat spawn a NE/NY rivalry similar to the Sox and Yanks. Oh good lord, I think I'm going to be sick. -- Ken Fortenberry |

![]() "Ken Fortenberry" wrote in message And a job well done to the New York team who played a pretty good football game today. I gotta say, I thought the game very discouraging. The Giants really were not that good; and the Pats barely seemed to be trying. Heh, heh. Maybe you'd like to tell one of those Patriot players that. I'm sure they'd agree.G They tried their best I think but aggressive defense just made it look that way. Frankly, the result seemed tailor-made for bookies and merchandisers. Other than the "any given Sunday" possibility, it sure looked like a fix to me. I wish I had more faith in the integrity of the game; but I don't. Amazing. The 2008 Black Sox? The Giants just attacked the weakest point....the quarterback. The Pats receivers run the best routes in football and I don't think anyone can cover them well. It just can't be done & all due praise to a well coached team. Brady is accurate, is great primarily when he has time to stand up and hit his open receivers but the Giants coaches obviously knew that so the defense did not allow him the time he needed. Neither qb stood up under some of the best attacking defense I can recall seeing; those two just aren't good scramblers and both took a drubbing but Manning was used to the beating. While you see weakness in the game I see strength and after this one I hope we'll not witness too many more passive defenses. This Super Bowl has the potential to change football. And if it doesn't I'd still guess a team with a bunch of fire breathing, raw red meat eating defenders will be in the next one. And a tip of the hat to Tripper for taking it so well. I know this one must have really hurt. Kiyu |

"Settle down, Francis" ;-) You really ought to know two things: one, Tom Coughlin and Bill Belichick are long time good friends - going *way* back. And two, that nitwit Specter is just that - a nitwit. All he did was make a fool of himself on behalf of another nitwit - Jeffrey Lurie - who made an ass out of *hisownself* by crying about the Eagles loss to the Pats. There's no traction for either of them on this deal. Wait and see. It's ovah, son. As for me: at the end of the day - or the season - football is just a game. I can be a fan - even a big fan - but win or lose, I'm still living my own life. /daytripper (with all the ****ed-up reality in the world, one has to maintain a proper perspective. you should try it ;-) |

It's not just "nitwits" who think that the NFL destroying evidence doesn't pass the smell test. Not to mention the perfunctory, half-assed, so-called "investigation" the NFL conducted where they didn't even bother to interview Belichick's illegal cameraman. I mean, c'mon this is *far* from over. The guy who illegally videotaped the Rams in 2002 is just chomping at the bit to testify and I'm guessing Specter will give him his chance. There ain't anything worse life on this planet can throw at me than what I've already experienced so from now on out it's all gravy. It's like I tell the religious in my family, "If it's true that the good Lord never gives anyone more than they than can handle I just wish the son of a bitch didn't trust me so goddamned much." ;-) Going to Jazz Fest for both weekends this year. We'll be in New Orleans from April 24th to May 5th, now *THAT'S* a proper perspective. You should try it. ;-) -- Ken Fortenberry |
