You can go in and out of Cancun without a passport - proof of citizenship would be at least two identification cards (military retire and driver's license). My question to you and others is: Do you know of any U.S. citizen going to Cuba to fly fish? Although I am fishing a couple of days a week, I am beginning to get cabin fever and it isn't even November. Golf doesn't help in the very least. I'm having hip replacement surgery on December 8, so I should be roaring to go by February. Any thoughts, RW, roff? Cuba is "Definitely" on my list However if I were to go I would do more than fish. So on a long trip and a somewhat expensivem trip like this I would have to go w my wife Joanne We love Cuban music and the culture excites both of us Livan Hernandez |

The outfitter I'm talking with suggests Los Roques in Venezuela. * Perhaps not as good, but it would be legal. *When would you be available for a trip? I may be pulling out the checkbook for a deposit on that one at the end of the week. I assume you are using Frontiers? |

I have done enough traveling around the world with the Navy, GTE, Verizon, and fly fishing to know *how* to act and what to do and not to do. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Yeah, I'd remember that speech for some light conversational banter while the pre-search grease-up takes place... HTH, R |

Any thoughts, RW, roff? Dave * I suppose Cuba might have great flats fishing, but so do the Seychelles, Andros, los Roques, etc., so I don't feel the need to do something illegal. I also don't like the idea of fishing off a boat for a week, which is the way I understand it works at Jardine de la Reina, the premier Cuban destination. That said, the US Cuba policy is stupid and counterproductive, held hostage to a Cuban American swing vote in a swing state (Florida). When it's legal I'll probably go. |

The place I was looking at is wading in the flats. I would like to go to the Seychelles, but the price of getting there makes it almost cost prohibitive. Los Rogues looks better and better, or at least until Cuba opens to Americans. What's your idea for a good bonefish rod/reel? I have a 7 weight which I used in TdF for sea run browns, but I am thinking an 8, or even a 9 weight would be better, especially to cut through any wind. Dave |

He was a musician and a well known regional painter. He apparently worked it thru a "special" travel agent in NYC, a heavy "R" contributor who got a sinecure.
