Hi All,
The biggest boon to most big city fly shops is the new breathable waders. After rods & reels, this is one of the biggest $ categories for us now. Most more sophisticated shoppers like to come in to a fly shop and try them on so they get a good fit. My first concern is the foot fit. If that is not good, well forget it. Next is the inseam and then the body fit. The fact that breathables don't stretch (as of yet) you need to get a little extra material for movement. We have our customers squat down or step up and put their foot up on something higher like a chair. I have one of those short fat figures with short legs and small feet so I have to get a "medium/king" with shorter inseam and smaller stocking feet custom made to get a real good fit. The custom charge from Simms is $50 USD. As far as women's sizes go, they have a big problem. Not all women are built like Sophia Loren (and not all men are built like John Wayne). Some women are better off trying all the women's and then the men's sizes too (no offense please). The other problem is that there are not as many women fly fishers as men so the investment in R&D and inventories has less financial returns for the manufacturers and retailers. Bill Kiene in FL "Jo Foster" wrote in message ... "Mark" wrote in message ... I cannot get over the fact that the high-end wader manufacturers refer to a 6' man with a 48" inch chest and a 36" waist as "stout," while at the same time consider a 6'1 man with a 46" inch chest and 42" waist to be of normal build (who is in better shape?). IF ANY REPRESENTATIVE FROM A WADER MANUFACTURER HAPPENS TO READ THIS NEWSGROUP, A MAN WITH 48" CHEST AND A 36" WAIST IS STILL CONSIDERED TO BE OF ATHLETIC BUILD BY MOST CLOTHING MANUFACTURERS (i.e., suits with more than six inches of drop between the chest and waist size are considered to be athletic-cut). REFERRING TO THESE PEOPLE AS "STOUT," WHICH IS SYNONYMOUS WITH "FAT," DOES NOT BODE WELL FOR SALES. Never mind tall and fat try short and fat, and with boobs waders are only designed for whip thin tall titless women. |
