Based on your analysis, the Forestville park sounds like the best bet if we
stay in a State park. However, I'll be traveling without camping equipment,
so would likely stay in a motel in a nearby town ( e.g. St. Charles if doing
the Whitewater, or Preston if doing the Root). Any reason it has to be in MN
vice WI?


No reason for location that I can recall, except that somehow
driftlees area got into it. I never did figure out how I got involved
in this in the first place. Probably the same way I became the ROFF
bouncer.

Avalanche would be fine with me. It's very pretty. It's as much a
part of the driftless area as SE MN is. If you prefer a real roof,
you might want see if one of the cabins (especially the one with the
indoor toilet) is free there... Otherwise it'd be a motel in Viroqua.

I just thought Whitewater because I know the area, same for
Forestville.

Lord knows, I have enough camping equipment for a small Scout troop,
if you prefer to camp.

Looks like about 160 miles from the twin cities to Avalanche. I'm up
for just about anything, but there must be a lot of other
possibilities between the two.

I'm sure there are. I just don't know any of them. There's some
place on the Rush that the WFFB is going to in June, but that's all I
know about it. Maybe you or George Cleveland know something about it?

another something to that to Avalanche isn't bad.

I wouldn't do it for just one day of fishing, but for several days, an

Well, beyond spending a few fruitless hours on the Kinnickinnic and the
Willow some years ago, I know even less about the area near the twin cities
than I do about the Avalanche environs. That said, both of the above enjoy
good reputations, as does the Rush, not too far away. Also in the
neighborhood is the St. Croix, about which I know less yet......but I can't
help but feel it must be a good fishery, it being designated as a wild and
scenic river. At any rate, George should be along shortly, and I'm sure he
will be more helpful.

Meanwhile, and speaking only for myself of course, I can see nothing wrong
with a bit of exploration. Frankly, I'd be as happy rooting about the
landscape and finding whatever might be there as doing anything else. Hell,
we can always find something to burn, shoot, break, or deface.

Well, Bob seems to think that Forestville is okay, so, since we seem
to be building this around him, we'll wait for George to weigh in with
any ideas, keeping Forestville as choice so far, with Avalanche as
second. The Rush would be closer than any and I suspect Ellsworth has
more choice of motels than Preston.

Anyone else? Any of the Dakotans thinking of coming over? Joel
thinking about road tripping up for it? If so, any opinions?

Even if not planning to attend, anyone can pop in a recommendation.

The wingding on the Rush is on the weekend of June 11-13 at a private
campground on the Trimbelle River.

As to how the Rush will be fishing later in the month, that all
depends on the weather I suppose. The Kinnickinnic (sp?) has a higher
proportion of spring flow and should therefore be fishable if the
weather warms too much for the Rush. I'm going to be up in Ely (MN)
from June 26th to July 2. You guys are welcome to crash on our
cabin's floor.
