...Wolfgang is BTW the only American that ever pronounced my
surname correctly...

A speech impediment that has devilled me since early childhood. You
are the first to comment on it in public.

Wolfgang
and, actually, i believe it was your home town.

Whoops! It was, wasn't it!?!?

Actually, what surprised me was that your pronunciation of the letter "Ö",
that is an O with two dots above it if that doesn't show in this post, was
the first ever said by an American that didn't sound as if he had a frog
down his throat.

Well, you'd already had a couple of beers.....and you DID have your back to
me. Evidently you didn't see me hacking up a small Rana.

So, I suspect your pronunciation of my surname would have been equally

well,
unless of course the "hlund" would have posed a problem.

Problem? It's pronounced just the way it's spelled......ainna?

In any case I wouldn't call it a speech impediment, more of a gift

Ahem.....well......

Wolfgang
who is pleased to defer to one of our german friends to hold forth on the
meaning of "gift".

it was I, so come on over to Penn's and we'll drink to the ROFFian who

first
relayed it here online. My lips are sealed.

Maybe next year, it sounds like fun, and the irony of an American accusing
ANYONE of lacking culture did not escape me :-)

Vaughan

now that I think of it I seem to recall a similar joke being told to me by
a Canadian

BTW, hi Vaughan. Haven't seen you posting many messages, but sort of
assumed you'd be lurking in the background. And so it seems to be.

Only, what, 9 1/2 weeks until you meet your Oban. And it's at least
one year older than its label says.

Hi Jarmo,

No I have not been paying much attention to the group for a while but after
hearing from Roger about his trip I looked in. I am looking forward to
August as well - but I am more than mildly surprised the Oban has survived
the winter. You are Finnish, right?? :-) Bring it along, I am sure we can do
some damage to it.

Vaughan

Finns prefer it _raw_.

I just realized that we might meet even earlier if that Ransaran thing
is still on the menu.

to have and weekend to boot! Cripes... hmm ... must buy a bucket :-)

Roger Jeff and Joe did not want to tell you, but they said you do not know how
to pronounce "You All" correctly.

Roger,

Thanks for the report and for making the trip to the US.
