go anywhere. they just continued to taunt me :-(

Are you certain that the fish were trout? Then New isn't really know
for
it's trout,
but is known for it's smallies.

The fish you saw jumpin' out of the water may have been bait fleeing
smallies.

Hey Snake, Mark is right on, those were minnies fleeing those hungry
smallies. Tie on that chartruese slider I gave you, then cast upstream at
about a 45 degree angle and let it drift down till it starts to drag,
then recast back up again. Smallies love that Sneaky Pete. Also, if the
water depth allows, wade out and cast back into the bank, especially
around structure, stumps, downed trees, etc. Also, cast to any exposed
rock out in the river, expect a strike on the down current side of it.
I'd love to see you tie into a nice smallmouth, you'll be hooked for
life.

i *thought* (knowing how much you like to fish for small mouth), i might
hear from *you* when mark said those are probably smallies in there ;-)
i'm kind of excited about the prospect of getting one; i'd like a first hand
experience of your description of bringing it in.
while i was at work in the library this a.m., i looked up a picture , so
that i will recognize it should i be so lucky.
