Many an interlocutor with what turned out to be a murderous tyrant throughout history could say the same.....and has. When have I smeared anyone except the two biggest assholes on roff - Barnard and Wolfgang? Like Joe said, he and I are diametrically opposed as far as politics are concerned, yet we have fished together, shared meals together, and went out to eat with our families. The same can be said for Jeff Miller, wayno, Stan Gula, Fortenberry, Peter Charles, et al. In fact, Peter and his wife (who is even *more* to the left than Peter) visit Joanne and me quite often, and we visit their home in Ontario. You don't know me, BJ. I'll guaratee that my voting record is much more diverse than yours, and includes many Democrats. |

You are correct of course; and I have no doubt that murderous tyrants
throughout history have had friends who were more than willing to overlook, excuse, or apologize for their faults. I sure as hell don't mean to get in the middle of a ****ing match or fight anyone else's battles, because my position is difficult. I generally agree with Steve's politics, but I consider Dave a friend. I wouldn't want Dave to be President (nor do I consider him analogous to a murderous tyrant), but I'd share a stream with him anytime. Despite our polarized positions, I'm also certain we could enjoy a bottle of single malt together while discussing politics without insulting or assaulting each other. The only point I meant to convey was an exception to Steve's blanket assertion to Dave that, "You have to insult anyone who disagrees with your radical right-wing politics." Steve & Dave can have at it all they want as far as I'm concerned, so long as hyperbole doesn't pass for fact. |

I shouldn't have made that blanket statement. I suppose that LaCourse throwing stupid insults at Wolfgang makes sense because Wolfgang is at least as insulting. You might have noticed, however, that I haven't been insulting LaCourse (aside from one "girly man" reference that was supposed to be ironic). As I said, it doesn't bother me, because I think it says more about him than it does about me. What bothers me is when he just makes **** up (like the stuff about McCain's, and Cleland's, and Kerry's war records) and when he refuses to acknowledge facts (like the Bush administration's disgraceful failure to respond after hurricane Katrina). -- Cut "to the chase" for my email address. |
