There was no alert on tthe radio station. As of 12 PM, It appeared that we
would get the heavy rain on Saturday night. We were planning on fishing
Saturday morning (the actual time of the crested river) and leave Saturday
evening before the storm.. Other campers from other camp grounds that we met
at the assembly points were in the same situation we were in, getting alerted
within an hour of our evacuation.

Fished there this week end, staying at Roscoe campgrounds. Evacuated
the

camp
site at 3 AM. Lost my tent and much camping gear. Did manage to get
the

car
out. Bet Frank Reid can not top this for picking a "wet" camp site.

i just find this astonishing. did you not have access to tv or
radio
weather reports?
not meant to flame you--just amazes me that you wouldn't consider
the
fact that the entire eastern united states was going to be inundated,
beginning thursday, and lasting well into the weekend.

I stayed at Roscoe Campsites last year, but avoided the place this year.
I think it might be the case of a new owner needing to learn the ropes.
The campsite was OK, but a tad messier than I thought it should be, and
the owner gave me problems about an arrangement that I had with the
previous owner, where they would allow more than one tent on a site. He
did end up letting me put two tents on two sites, push comes to shove, so
I can't really complain about that all that hard. Others that I knew
stayed there at the same time got stuck with a two-day minimum that they
didn't know existed, even though they were staying only one night.

Let's just say that if I owned a campsite, and it were in danger of
flooding, I would do my level best to warn my customers in time to get
out. I know at Twin Islands, where you actually drive through the river
to get to your cabin, the owners swear they keep a close eye on things
and warn people if they need to get their cars off the island.

Way I see it, either the owner doesn't care, or this was his first big
flood. Giving the guy the benefit of the doubt, I'll be listening to any
reports, but I'll wait till I hear good ones before I book there.

I noticed that you didn't mention loosing your fly tackle. Good man,
save the important stuff. Glad you got out okay and no, I wouldn't even
attempt to match that accomplishment. I am, however, a "weather
junkie." I knew this weekend was gonna be bad so I put off any attempts
at camping and fishing.

Maybe you SHOULD consider raising your tent up on pontoons
