Only people who can't catch fish say that. So far, that's you and Frank.
Anyone
else? ;-)

Hey, I reserve the end of this line for myself!

Heh . . . heh . . .went out for my first time in a while yesterday. Stupid
health things and timing and such.
Caught NO fish yesterday . . .can't remember when that last occurred.
The weather was dismal. Rain here and snow above 9000 feet. (proved to be
true)
But left West Denver about 7:30 AM and returned about 6:15 PM. with my
fishing partner, Don. Slightly raining when we left, turned to sleet and
snow at 9000 feet and above and rained throughout the day when we dropped to
lower elevations.
Looked at 4 rivers/streams. Found a great area to explore at a time later.
(he has lived here all his life and I only have lived here 15-16 years or so
.. . .in two separate time frames)
Neither of us had explored the place. For any curious it is in the . .
..mumble . . .mumble . . .area.
Anyhow, we traveled several hundred miles, mostly just looking around. Saw
my first moose in Colorado (got one not so good pic . . .I'll post to ABPF
if anybody cares), a mom deer with a couple youngsters, several species of
hawks (one just catching and eating lunch) , several more deer, the
standard squirrel varieties we have out here, chipmunks of course for here,
ravens, crows, only one bunny, a muskrat and the standard variety of little
birds. ( plus numerous active beaver lodges in one area) Also saw fresh elk
tracks from the morning in one area.
This all in the rain. Stopped for lunch at a river. I walked down to it
and saw the first rises of the day. My partner waited at the truck. I went
back to tell him and rain picked up. We waited a bit for this heavier
shower to pass, and I went back to the river to see if the fish were still
rising . . .very sporadic. So, we moved on. Went to another place on the
river. Met some folks leaving who had no luck, but said there were fish
rising. We took a look. Sure 'nuff. My partner was having back problems
all day and said he couldn't fish. We were in an area where it was
"possible" to cast from shore. I got lazy, and decided to try it without
waders from shore. (dumb idea) The fish were rising, but there was no real
hatch happening. Saw an occasional size 26 or so something that looked like
a baetis. I tied on a size 24 thingee, with a size 24 emerger dropper. I
could make the cast to the fish, but I couldn't do the drift, with the
current. Decided to wet wade (dumb idea 2). Missed 2 fish, one on my
original rig, and another changing flies and using no dropper. My partner,
of course, was "helping" me . . . letting me know where all the fish were
rising upstream or downstream of me . . .grinning because his back was too
sore for him to try it.
So . . . after about 15 minutes or so . . .and 2 missed fish . . .and me
trying to try another combination, I noticed my hands starting to shake.
(tying on 6x-7x and size 24, and now 26 size stuff) Tuff to wet wade when
it gets chilly. I just laughed and grumbled about fish trying to eat with
their mouths closed, and my stupidity about wet wading. We moved on.
Babbling ended. I caught NO fish. It rained or snowed on us all day.

One of the best memorable days I've had for quite awhile.
BestWishes,
Dave Mohnsen
Denver
(and NO fish . . .sort of a relief actually . . .didn't have to put any wear
and tear on my reel playing those pesky fish)
