One of my neighbors is very politically involved. He's very conservative and votes Republican but philosophically is actually more of a Libertarian. I've been reading up on their positions and strongly agree with some of them and strongly disagree with others. Is there any proof that their principals work in a practical situation ie any governments that are run on Libertarian principals? Willi |

Here's a roffian survey and please indicate whether you live in a blue state or a red state. ;-) Is it ethical to shave while on a fishing trip ? Blue State (not my fault). No. -- email:remove tt |

Here's a roffian survey and please indicate whether you live in a blue state or a red state. ;-) Is it ethical to shave while on a fishing trip ? Came back from one fishing/hunting trip freshly shaved and was questioned at length about where I'd really been. Made it a point to return looking and smelling like a dedicated fisherman from that time on. For those who fly and stay in motels on their fishing trips, it's a different story. Different strokes! Doesn't matter much anymore. At my age, since I substituted food for sex, I can't even get into my own pants. Blue state, red voter. |

Is there any proof that their principals work in a practical situation ie any governments that are run on Libertarian principals? The problem I have with Libertarianism is that it ignores an individual's responsibility to society and focusses too much on their "rights". Libertarians tend to believe they "made it on their own" and ignore or not understand that they were and are recipients of society's largess, and have a responsibility to contribute back. Jon. The biggest flaw I see is that they take the pollyannish perspective that unrestricted ownership somehow always results in a situation that's good for society. It's similar to the fallacies put forth by hard line free market people or socialists or communists or any rigid social model. In a perfect world populated solely with "good" people ANY of these systems would work well. That's not the world I live in. (I also strongly dislike their position on public lands.) Willi |

Check this out: http://www.esri.com/industries/elect...lts2004_lg.jpg What that map shows is that virtually every major city in the US voted blue. What's particularly interesting is the little blue islands, Austin, Texas, Athens, Georgia, Raleigh, North Carolina and my own little blue island Champaign County, Illinois.
