One funny thing about that fish, to me, is that I didn't mind losing
him. He had his escape route all planned out and he executed perfectly,
as though he'd practiced, which he may well have. :-)

I think big fish *do* have escape routes - or routines, tricks, whatever.

Last weekend I had what appeared to be the biggest smallie of the day smash my
popper, rush my wee boat (leaving me awash in slack) and then wrap around a
submerged log. All this happened in about 10 seconds.

I reeled up snug, couldn't feel anything moving, just a tight and fast "stuck
to the log" feeling. I tried feeding a little slack, then a little more, then
a bit more - and my popper floated to the surface, sans smallie.

/daytripper (I'll get that big bastid the next time ;-)

That was a fine day. You got the largest fish on a stonefly nymph. Willi
and I showed a large, actively feeding fish four different flies before
he took, and promptly broke off under a logjam. Bruiser was cleaning up
behind us with nymphs. :-)

Bruiser actually woke me up to the idea of switching back to nymphs as the
caddis dropper thing got a bit tougher when I lost the last of those little
wet droppers (another Harry Mason special), and he was definetly "cleaning"
up behind us. That and the look of that deep, dark, corner pool fed by a
nice quick riffle. Perfect spot for the ole nymph. It was a bit tough with
the 3 weight, I think I got a bit lucky that I stopped that fish from
leaving me with a similar fate as R.W.'s.

P.S. to all of ROFF: Never compete with Bruiser on name that
tune/artist/album, at least not in the Rock, Country, or Bluegrass genres.

Yeah I may be able to compete with some of the rock stuff, but he would
clean my clock with he rest of it.

Last part of the TR coming later,

Mike

We're still not sure who does:

"It's hard to kiss the lips at night,
that chew your ass out all day long"

Not sure either, but I think the wife would "name that tune" pretty
quickly..

.... I had a blast fishing with all you guys and I'd drive
right back to Montana in a heartbeat to do it again.

Here, here. May not be able to react quite as quickly as Bruiser, but had
an awesome trip. It was good to meet so many new Roffian friends, look
forward to the next adventure.

I'd sponsor him to a game show that tested that stuff.

Willi

New event for Penn's Clave 2005, not quite sure what to call it, but Bruiser
has to be there to compete against the rest of you guys, or at least Emcee..
