Checked out Seychelles and from Denver it's a 2 1/2 or 3 DAY flight and just the flight costs almost $5000! Then from there you have to get to the island where you're staying. Not an easy place to get to. Can't see going there anytime soon. Willi It's just a dream for now, Willi. I like to fly but a 3 day flight is crazy! Another destination in the book that sounds great, and much more affordable and accessible, is Cuba: Tarpon off Jardines de la Pinta. (Also supposedly excellent bonefishing.) Remember those two English twins (from York, IIRC) we met in Belize who'd just come from there? Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. They were a pair! Interesting guys. They really liked Cuba. They hated the food! (They were FAT!) One thing they liked about Cuba was that there weren't a lot of obnoxious Americans. :-) Especially Texans. :-) Whipray Caye was fun. The Cabrals were a fascinating family. I recently got an email XMas card from them. Indeed, the Cabrals are interesting. We ran into the family again at Glover's Reef. I wonder what that kid is doing now. What was his name? As American citizens we'd have to break the law to go there. Isn't that ****ed up? It is stupid. I thought Fidel was a goner but the pictures I saw of him recently made him look much improved (if you can go by that). I'd be up for a Cuba trip. I think it can be done from Belize. The key is NOT getting your passport stamped. According to "the book," Americans usually depart from Cancun. It's a vacation destination (I think number 1) for Belizians. If that's the case, you must be able to do Cuba on the cheap. I'll ask around when Susan and I are in Belize next month. So you decided on Belize instead of that Mexican place your vet recommended? Tight lines. It's great that Susan is OK with flying. -- Cut "to the chase" for my email address. |

It would not be all that hard for you to get a Visa to visit Cuba legally since you've had a magazine article or two printed IIRC. I got permission just to go along with a writer in the early days of the administration. If the travel and spending ban for the average Joe ever gets rescinded, the BASS guys are going to go nuts. |

Cuban culture The people , national pride, and cuisine have always left me in a bit of awe Some of their music blows me away Buena Vista Social Club - Geart music! The whole island under Batista was mob owned Whether you like him or not or his politics Castro is a great man! And the fact that as American citizens we couldn't go to Cuba is real ****ed up But I was never a main stream American boy anyaway! I thought that when he came to the NY Walsorf w his entourage and his chickens - I thought it was great and funny Their passion fior Baseball and WOW Some of the Cuban women I could run away to some remote hacienda forever. I have checked out a few fishng brochures - perhaps someday - but I do not know how much I would really fish. Fred |

I cannot believe that you have revealed the LEADERS location! I suspect that Jason Bourne is likely on his way to take you out. So much for the April/May fishin' excursion :~^ ( Btw, stopped in to see Greg the other day. He is stayin' in NC for the Winter. He plans to turn the campground into a luxury trailer park? He is also interested in installing a hydoelectric dam and wants me to get him info similar to what you had asked about. Did you ever contact Dr. Brian W. Raichle at the Dept. of Technology? If you have lost the info on him I will resend it to you. As usual Greg's plan is quite grand, but I'll believe it when I see it, as I haven't seen him do a great deal towards his other plans of the past. Personally, I hope he leaves the campgrounds as they are, and simply build more cabins an open up a few more motorcoach sites. The way he talks, the lodge, Wayno's cabin, the shower house and other buildings will be raised to make room for a large number of motorcoach hook-ups. I stopped by Wally's store the other day and cashed in my credit for that POS William-Joseph's chestpack that fell apart on our last outing. I ended up spending another $150 on a neat western NC fly fishin' book and a Fishpond chest and backpack. I like this rig much more so that the W-J POS. This set-up doesn't make me look like I have to sagging square tits hangin' off of me! Used my credit to by my brother some Woolrich merchandise (Birthday ****), which naturally turned out to be to small for him. So I had to spend another $100 buyin' him some ASU clothing and I get to wear the Woolrich stuff :~^ ) Wally and I met at Greg's place the other day, and I got to watch him drink half of the gift I had brought of Greg--Greg wasn't there. OBROFF--brought along fishin' gear, but never wet a line. Op also, years ago when i was in jamaica one of the resorts offered special tours to veradero (?) beach that a lot of americans took to see havana and partake of "stuff" cuba offered at very low prices. jeff |

The restrictions on Americans who can travel to Cuba are actually quite specific and severe, and I don't fit into any of the categories. I understand that the risk of traveling to Cuba illegally is pretty small if you take precautions (risk of prosecution, I mean), but they do exist and people have been prosecuted. But that wasn't my point. The point is that the government has no business telling its citizens where it can't travel. The are no other such restrictions covering any other place in the world, as far as I'm aware. The only reason for it, IMO, is to appease an important voting block (Cuban Americans) in an important swing state (Florida). In fact, that's the sole reason for the stupid and counterproductive embargo in general. -- Cut "to the chase" for my email address. |

I received this book as a Christmas present. Naturally, I first had to see how many of the places I've already fished: Alaska -- Bristol Bay: Rainbow Trout and Silver Salmon Around Bristol Bay California: Brown and Rainbow Trout Around Greater Redding Florida: Permit off the Florida Keys (Didn't catch a permit, or much of anything) Idaho -- Last Chance: Rainbow Trout on the Henry's Fork Idaho -- Stanley: Cutthroat Trout on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River Kiribati: Giant Trevally Off Christmas Island (Didn't catch a Giant Trevally, but lots of Bonefish) Montana -- Fort Smith: Brown and Rainbow Trout on the Bighorn River Wyoming: Brown and Rainbow Trout on the Firehole River (It was too warm for decent fishing) Wyoming and Montana: Brown and Rainbow Trout on the Madison River Only 41 more to go! Too little time left. :-) On the top of my wish list is Seychelles Islands: Bonefish on St.François Lagoon. -- Cut "to the chase" for my email address. Will you please post all 50 places? I'm very curious to see what they are. It would interesting to try and speculate. Thinking about it for even a few seconds I find doing that harder than it sounds. Naming the top 50 places near home would be hard, let alone the entirety of the world. I'd have to think Kamchatka and Tierra Del Fuego are on the list. I also wonder if any of the "front nine" of Colorado are on it. Your pal, Halfordian Golfer |

Yes, Kamchatka and Tierra del Fuego (sea-run browns on the Rio Grande) are on the list. A flyshop friend of mine fished for those enormous browns. His photos were spectacular. I posted some on abpf some time ago. The only entry for Colorado is the Gunnison River. -- Cut "to the chase" for my email address. |
