A hearty congrats and a raised glass to the 1972 Miami Dolphins.
And a job well done to the New York team who played a pretty good football game today. -- Ken Fortenberry |

The Giants really were not that good; and the Pats barely seemed to be trying. Frankly, the result seemed tailor-made for bookies and merchandisers. Other than the "any given Sunday" possibility, it sure looked like a fix to me. I wish I had more faith in the integrity of the game; but I don't. Joe F. |

This was a classic Greek Tragedy of an object lesson, no fix required ;-) Bottom line is the Giants arrived with a better defensive strategy than the Pats offensive strategy - at least in the first half, when New England really should have put more points on the board using the same short passing game that got them to this game in the first place and that put them in the lead near the end. For whatever reasons, the Pats too often ran plays that weren't working and kept putting themselves into long third downs. Whatever. My favorite team lost, my second favorite team won, and next year is a whole new season of opportunities. My only regret is that the effing '72 Dolphins remain alone in all of their dried-up splendor - and I was really looking forward to sticking them with an asterisk ;-) In the mean time, the Celtics demand watching... /daytripper (...and Pitchers and Catchers report in 9 days :23 hrs :7 mins :3 secs :-) |

The media already had their darling; all that was left was to get through 60 minutes of a football game so they could sell more stuff. Kind of like the Brady franchise had run its course, but the Eli market was just opening up. I dunno, maybe it's just me. Joe F. |

I vote for the "it's just me" answer, and think we must have been watching different games. The Giants had the Pats offense on their heels from early in the game. Their blitzes were near-flawless, and the Pats abandoned the offense that got them to the bowl in the first place. It was a great game that kept me watching all the way to the last seconds. As far as your "uninspiring" comments, I think you must be referring to the halftime show and most of the ads - BLECH! Although it was VERY sophomoric, the Doritos-mouse-through-the-wall ad cracked me up. The e-trade "baby" ads were pretty cool, too. -- TL, Tim ------------------------- http://css.sbcma.com/timj |

Just enough to allow the Giant's defense to be rffective. I think they need younger legs on the line. In many of the closeups those guys looked tired right from the get-go. I still think that Brady was bothered by the ankle, and that may have had a lot to do with the plays they chose to run in the first half. One question was answered however......Eli Manning is a legitimate NFL QB. The sad thing is that this was a once in a lifetime chance. The Pat's will have other good seasons and win other Superbowls, but this was their one shot at a perfect season. One good thing, (maybe), is this game mat spawn a NE/NY rivalry similar to the Sox and Yanks. |

Not having a home team in the contest or money on the outcome, I suppose I started with less interest from the outset. Plus, we were well into our third 1.5L bottle of Merlot by kickoff. As far as your "uninspiring" comments, I think you must be referring to the halftime show Didn't even consider watching that. There is no act so good that the Super Bowl Halftime show couldn't ruin. and most of the ads - BLECH! Although it was VERY sophomoric, the Doritos-mouse-through-the-wall ad cracked me up. The Bud Light "Cheese Party" add was the best of that lot. Joe F. |

The Giants defense rocked, which may have given the perception the Pats were at half speed. JT |

The Giants really were not that good; and the Pats barely seemed to be trying. Heh, heh. Maybe you'd like to tell one of those Patriot players that. I'm sure they'd agree.G They tried their best I think but aggressive defense just made it look that way. Frankly, the result seemed tailor-made for bookies and merchandisers. Other than the "any given Sunday" possibility, it sure looked like a fix to me. I wish I had more faith in the integrity of the game; but I don't. Amazing. The 2008 Black Sox? The Giants just attacked the weakest point....the quarterback. The Pats receivers run the best routes in football and I don't think anyone can cover them well. It just can't be done & all due praise to a well coached team. Brady is accurate, is great primarily when he has time to stand up and hit his open receivers but the Giants coaches obviously knew that so the defense did not allow him the time he needed. Neither qb stood up under some of the best attacking defense I can recall seeing; those two just aren't good scramblers and both took a drubbing but Manning was used to the beating. While you see weakness in the game I see strength and after this one I hope we'll not witness too many more passive defenses. This Super Bowl has the potential to change football. And if it doesn't I'd still guess a team with a bunch of fire breathing, raw red meat eating defenders will be in the next one. And a tip of the hat to Tripper for taking it so well. I know this one must have really hurt. Kiyu |
