FWIW Ah, the "telling him that he could NOT go through the scanner in the metal chair, so he stood up and with the assistance of a cane, limped his way to the doorway. Then she said he could NOT go through with the cane, as it was metal. So, still smiling, he gave her the cane and held on to the frame of the scanner. THEN she said he could NOT touch the scanner" consists of two cases. g BTW, I think it's ****ty they would put someone through that. I'd sure like to know why they feel that is necessary. -- TL, Tim ------------------------ http://css.sbcma.com/timj |

I made no claims as to the rate of occurrence, but I'll just bet this happened at a slower but regular rate prior to Sept. 2001 and the PA. The fact that it didn't happen to YOU doesn't mean it only happened once (well, with Scott's episode we know it happened at least twice). I'm guessing that the airline must have received some kind of tip about a bag similar to my wife's, or they saw something suspect during the x-ray, and took what they deemed to be acceptable measures. Oddly enough, my wife didn't feel outraged when it happened. ;-) -- TL, Tim ------------------------ http://css.sbcma.com/timj |

I made no claims as to the rate of occurrence, My original question to you was about cutting locks off for *random* luggage checks pre PA. I only said it hadn't happened to me or anyone I knew, not that the airlines couldn't do it. They can (and could) also let the bomb squad detonate your bag if they believe it is necessary, but I don't think they randomly detonate a certain percentage. The difference between pre and post PA is that pre the searches were for cause, post they are random as well as for cause. -- Charlie... |
