much snippage

We have an entire culture that has been raised on TV and subjected to
constant bombardment from the ADman ...

Speaking (reading?) of admen, I just picked up a book one of my former profs
wrote: _The Man Everybody Knew_, a bio of Bruce Barton, considered by many
to be the "father" of modern advertising. As an undergrad, in Prof. Fried's
class, we read _The Man Noboby Knows_, by Barton, wherein Jesus is cast as a
salesman. Great read. This book ought to be interesting as well.

...so tippet leads to Jesus as salesman....

Yeah, but my face is pretty much the only one I have.

I find that I'm capable of silly maudlin sentiment about "the concept of
humanity"

And I know a FEW individuals I would defend at any cost, so dear are they to
me.

Yet truth told, I find very little to like in most "people" and that may
well be reciprocal.

..............................................

But, within that small group of my family and few friends that actually
know me, I'm willing to bet that the appraisal of my character would be
significantly more positive than, "Not really that bad of an asshole ... in
person." G

Hm.....two for the price of one.

And I know a FEW individuals I would defend at any cost, so dear are they

Yeah, you're a real Mensch.

Yet truth told, I find very little to like in most "people"

Ah! Well, if we're going to deal in truth........you don't really work all
that hard at finding it, do you?

and that may well be reciprocal.

Ya think?

If what Larry said was an insult, then they take life (or
at least that aspect of life) _way_ too seriously, and they
bought the place for all the wrong reasons. Sheesh. If they
want to see insults, they should just read ROFF for a month :-)

Presumably, we know that they got their copy of the rules of life because
you have the signed receipt right there in your hot little hand.....right?
And, besides, Larry has made it abundantly clear that he would never be so
irresponsible as to fail to deliver them. But there STILL isn't any way we
can make them actually read the damned things, is there?

Anyway, this matter of insult is always a difficult topic. One currently
popular school of thought holds that intent is an important. But, knowing
Larry as we do.....and especially taking into account his herculean efforts
at spreading sunshine here in the last few days.....this is a difficult
theory to reconcile with the facts. One can hardly help but be dubious,
ainna?

As for buying the place for all the wrong reasons, well, this is quite a
stunning accomplishment. I mean, there are a LOT of wrong reasons! I don't
have the complete list myself.....and I'm not sure I know anyone who does.
How can we be absolutely certain that they didn't miss one or two?

Actually impressively clever, but was it as much fun as just calling me a
nasty name?

I find it impossible to think of a 'right' reason for a aging couple with no
children at home to build and occupy a several million dollar, sprawling but
cheerless, "trophy" that feels more like a government office building,
including a 3 story high 'dome' than a home. Maybe if I was a
Republican I'd "get it" ?

Tough call. Hm.....probably not as much fun as citizen's arrests, lawsuits,
bludgeons, shootings, beatings, etc. Does that help at all?

Still, one can hardly help but admit the possibility that something you
can't imagine might nevertheless exist. Furthermore, it also seems possible
that the people who had it built and who live in it might have a different
conception of what it feels like than you do. But then, that would just
make them wrong.....right?

Maybe if I was a Republican I'd "get it" ?

Maybe.

Apples and Oranges. One can't possibly expect words and cyber substitution
to match action in the real world. To make a meaningful comparison you
would need to compare substitution to substitution ... i.e. is it as
satisfying to post cleverly pointed barbs that make you seem intellectually
impressive ( to me ) or the far more common pre-teen-like name calling that
make you seem, ah ... pre-teen ( to me)

Of course, your posts must satisfy you, regardless of how they seem to me
.... but I really am curious ... mildly

The degradation by association that would come from figuratively "hanging"
with the Roves, Cheneys and BushPuppets would make joining Der Party just to
find this out far too costly. I'll just have to continue to live clueless
on this subject ( there is a big opening there, ... I'm sure you can see it
;-)

Apples and Oranges.

Fruits, if I'm not mistaken.

Quite the contrary.....one can expect anything one wishes to. Moreover, a
lot of the "action in the real world" IS words. Or are you telling us that
you somehow managed to convey the notion of "it's not too cozy is it?"
without using actual words despite reporting that you said it? Some sort of
ultra-sophisticated mime, perhaps? And then there's that citizen's arrest
thingy. Without words, something like this could easily be mistaken for a
common kidnapping.

To make a meaningful comparison you would need to compare substitution to
substitution ... i.e. is it as satisfying to post cleverly pointed barbs

Abject nonsense. One can make all sorts of meaningful comparisons among any
number of similar or disaparate items. No matter how you slice it, an
elephant is bigger than a Brussels sprout. Grayer, too. Substitute a
tennis ball for the Brussels sprout and a Buick for the elephant and it
quickly becomes clear (well, to some of us anyway) that the latter is larger
than the former while it may or may not be any yellower. How meanigful any
of these comaprisons may be has nothing whatsoever to do with what was
substituted for which. What matters is whether or not the comparison makes
internal sense. In the instant case, you've indicated that you find your
antics with the neighbors highly amusing. So far, this hasn't been a source
of much hilarity for me. Score it however you please.

As for how I seem to you......well, you're a liar.

Wolfgang

Missed the rest of this on the first viewing.

The degradation by association that would come from figuratively "hanging"
with the Roves, Cheneys and BushPuppets would make joining Der Party just
to find this out far too costly.

It was your idea.....not mine.

If mere figurative hanging with the likes of the above is both degrading and
costly, the mind boggles at what might happen if one should come face to
face with any of them.....and actual physical contact is almost to horrific
to contemplate. You suppose parts might begin to drop off
immediately.....or would it take a while for the poison to do its work? Are
ALL Republicans "BushPuppets"......or is it at least theoretically possible
that some of them are fully human and therefore capable....and even,
perhaps, worthy.....of redemption?

And "Der Party" is just ever so precious.

I'll just have to continue to live clueless on this subject ( there is a
big opening there, ... I'm sure you can see it ;-)

Huh?

Yeah, is was kinda sticky wasn't it

Well, I don't think I've ever followed a thread this far down the screen and
this one, too, is losing interest ... even on a rainy day with nothing else
to do ... think I'll fire up the tying vise and turn out some midge pupa ...
I had a lone baetis dun on the side of my travel trailer yesterday, might be
trying to tell me it's time to get ready.

Thanks for the fun ...
