You nailed it, Sandy. Spot on.

Look, we all know that Mike Connor, however knowledgeable, can be a
pompous ass, but Fortenberry is far worse. He's a preening, elitist,
attention-seeking gadfly who gets his kicks from from annoying people.
A keyboard coward. A thoroughly disgusting example and a waste of carbon.

Yeah I do, god help me, derive pleasure from poking fun at
the pompous. Last time I saw you, you were hiding in your tent
because I'd given you a dirty look and blown a double lungful
of Marlboro Red right smack into your face. You were rude and
disrespectful and all I wanted to know was had you seen anyone
else from roff and know where they were camping. Still smarting
from that are you ? Perhaps you wouldn't have had to hide in your
tent if you'd had a keyboard to protect you ? LOL !!

Let me put it this way, I am proud to annoy all the right people.

You are such a remarkable pig.

Its a good thing for you that no one was around at Henry's Fork when you
showed up while I was setting up my tent. They didn't have the pleasure
of seeing you run off like a little girl after I got in your face. My
biggest regret is that I didn't clock you. It was the perfect opportunity.

This is my last word on this thread. I'm not getting into a ****ing war
with a **** bag.

No, it wasn't the perfect opportunity because no one was around. They
*were* around at the San Juan when you faced Fortenberry and nothing
happened. I would have bitch slapped him, but you did nothing.
People saw it, RW.

MDK77,

Albeit pointless here, I applaud your efforts. Actually, I think
you've made matters worse. You've just earned a flybox full of flies.
PM me as to where to send it.

Cdog

I've been coming to this message board for about a year now. This is
my first year of fly fishing. Many of the people have been really
helpful, either directly, or I have searched the archives to get
answers. I know there's a lot of bickering that go on between folks &
name-calling. But I couldn't help but notice that folks on both sides
of these arguments have been helpful to me over the year. One person,
Mike C. even sent me a used fly reel to try out (sent it all the way
from Germany) with some extra spools of lines so I could experiment &
learn some new things. I have children and am on a tight budget so it
just wouldn't have been possible for me to go out and buy this stuff &
he had an extra reel he wasn't using so he sent it to me. No cost.
Just being a nice guy. And I've met several through this group (and
have enjoyed some very nice private email from the folks here).

I wondered if it would ever be possible for folks to just "agree to
disagree" more on this board? I know there will be daily
disagreements over stuff. You find that on most every message board.
But it would be neat if folks could keep disagreements from getting so
escalated that it detracts from the great fishing content and advice
here.

Just an observation and thought from a "new guy" who doesn't know
squat about fly fishing, but loves having a place to learn more from
good people here.

It isn't every day that one's desultory efforts at reading cast up upon the
strand a gem worth sharing (in context) in one of the sparkling threads that
evanesce with such frequency here and......um......well, o.k., I guess that
DOES happen pretty much every day......but hey, I don't have time to
transcribe all of that ****.....o.k.?
Anyway, it isn't every day that one's desultory efforts at reading cast up
upon the strand a gem worth sharing at a time of day when one is ordinarily
relaxing in his swinging new bachelor pad, clad in spiffy worn scrubs and
fuzzy slipp......hm......well, never mind about that.....a swinging bachelor
pad so rife with activity that one hasn't had time to get an internet
connection (nor much in the way of furniture, other than six wooden t.v.
trays, a couple of lawn chairs, a bed and not enough bookshelves, for that
matter......but, never mind about that either) and is thus forced to come
back to the cubicle to share what should be the last word about the nature
of this stellar exemplar of collegial brotherhood in a microcosmic
maelstrom. And so:

"What is [a Roffian]? [A Roffian] is anyone who is called [a Roffian]. The
very name breathes life into [the Roffian]. But that is by no means the
whole story. Every [Roffian] relates to something special that is, by
definition, incomprehensible to outsiders. You know it or you don't--it
can't be explained. The point is of course that this mysterious core owes
its existence to the ignorance of others. But even the [Roffian] himself
hasn't the faintest notion of what it is all about.

[Roffianship] spreads discord among the inhabitants over the question of who
is the true [Roffian]. Hence [Roffianship] keeps [Roffians] from becoming
[Roffians]. That is self-destructive stupidity. But at the same time this
idiocy is an existential condition, because arguing about his identity
defines the true [Roffian]. Hence there is no point in saying that there
are no true [Roffians]; [a Roffian] exists exclusively in his failure to
behave like one. He only flourishes in the space separating him from
himself as a [Roffian]. He is a [Roffian] in the canals, flags, songs,
barrel organs, buildings and other more or less monumental signs of his
impotence to come to terms with his [Roffianship]. He is a [Roffian] in his
boasting, in his endless sequence of colourful, but abortive, attempts to
prove that he is a [Roffian]. That is why the greatest [Roffians]
invariably come from outside [Roff]. The [Usenet] is the capital of [Roff],
and the province of [rec.] is a neighbourhood in the suburbs...

A born [Roffian], by contrast, does not have to prove himself as such; he
contributes nothing to the identity of [Roff]. Strictly speaking, he is
redundant--one reason why [Roffians] migrate en masse to the [riverside].
There they busy themselves obsessively with the protection of [banks],
[brookies] and greenery, in short with everything that contributes to the
cosy rural identity."

Wolfgang
with apologies to Matthijs van Boxsel. anyone wishing to get a more
accurate aroma of the original (albeit in English translation from the
original Dutch) is advised to substitute Amsterdammer for Roffian,
Netherlands for Usenet, Friesland for rec., barns for banks and brent geese
for brookies......or go out and consult a copy of "The Encyclopedia of
Stupidity," Reaktion Books Ltd., London, 2003, pp. 32-33.

Nope. Won't happen but don't sweat it. Just play with your kids, take them
fishing with your wife and enjoy.
Cherry-pick the good stuff from this NG and don't sweat the BS. Just take
the info you need and skip the negative stuff

Last Sunday marked the 26th year my son and I have fished together. The
memories we share we'll both treasure the rest of our lives. If you can use
this group and all other sources to help you enjoy the pleasure of fishing
with your children, my guess is that you'll also treasure the experiences.

Good luck to you and your family and have much success in fishing.
John
