I'd rather apologize on ROFF than ... ooops, wrong saying.

(Well, that and it was time to administer thirst quenchers, activity which
generally supercedes [though occasionally accompanies] rhymed verse.)

Couplets? Limericks? :-)

Hey, while we're discussing ignorance, I'll mention a book that a friend
pointed me to yesterday entitled "Great River: The Rio Grande in North
American History", by Paul Horgan. It's a massive work, some 900 pages in
two volumes, and originally published in 1954. It is an example of what I
have come to call a "Wolfgang book". I haven't looked at it yet, but my
friend tells me it is an excellent read. Chuck (and Jon), I thought it
might be of interest to you because of where you live, but I thought I'd
mention it more broadly to the group because of the recent discussion of
that area of our great country in the Gila trout thread. I don't know much
about the desert southwest, but am more and more intrigued by it. Besides,
any good book should get some mention now and then, no?

Funny you should mention that. We currently have an exihibit in our
Southwestern Writers Collection entitled: Rio Grande: The Storied River.
I haven't seen it yet, but I'm guessing that Horgan is prominently
featured in it. I know we have signed copies of many of his works in
Special Collections/Southwestern Writers.

I'm almost ashamed to say that I've never read any of his works.
But hey ... what is there in a desert anyhow? Snakes? Scorpions? Sand?
Cactus? Injuns?

I'm combing the book right now to find mention of the first appearance of
Acme drop shipment points. I mean, how did Wile E. Coyote do it?

Getting a little thirsty eh, bookbreath? :-)

Don't stop amusing the washed masses on my account.

And no, Tim, it is written in prose, not rhymed couplets.

Hmmm... I *do* know a lot of poems where the first line ends in
"Nantucket".

Use them to cook your bratwurst.

Second that. Put a sliced yellow onion and the beer in
a pot, bring to a simmer, DO NOT BOIL, add the brats and
reduce the heat, DO NOT BOIL. In a half hour - forty-five
minutes or so your brats will be ready for a medium grill.

This all assumes, of course, that you haven't made the
horrible mistake of buying "pre-cooked" so-called bratwurst.

I did think of this however this IS Bud Ice we're talking about... I would
hate to screw up a perfectly good bratwurst. But I see your point. Infusing
the onion into it may help kill that Bud Ice taste.G
You know... my wife makes GREAT beer bread. But it is always a fight because
she always wants to use my beer "That ain't cook'n beer...
Stop!....Ouch!....Get your!....Ouch!....Fine!, but just one!....Ouch!... now
what?!?.....Deserved What?...You Win, now Stop!!!!"
But still this is not "Milwaukee's Best Light"G we're taking about, it's
BUD ICE!!!
There is the emotional scaring that the flower will have to deal with but it
may be worth the risk.

Ok, here's what I am thinking...
Beer brats, served on beer bread.
With triple dipped beer battered onion rings (my wife makes these too, and
they are THE BEST I have ever had, period.)
....seems like there should be a vegetable...Wait, onions ARE a vegetable.

That reminds me, did I tell y'all about the Dobie Collection that
we've got down here at (Southwest) Texas State? Interesting stuff,
that.

I'm not entirely sure, but I don't think so. However, I believe I read
something about it recently......um......Nicholas Basbane's "A Gentle
Madness", if I'm not mistaken.

He's not as well-known as Dobie, but he holds his own as a
