Perhaps you don't. As for me, I see getting expensive flight training
out of taxpayer pockets then skipping a physical, losing your
certification, and avoiding using training in an actual conflict area
as *avoiding* seving one's country, unless you think Winton Blount's
senate campaign was in dire need of F-102A interceptor pilots.

You left out jumping the queue to get into the Texas Air National Guard,
over 500 applicants for his position as a pilot, despite receiving the
minimum passing score (25) on the pilot entrance aptitude test and
listing no other qualifications -- all due to strings pulled by a friend
of his dad (Sidney Adger). This was at the deadliest stage of the
Vietnam War.

He sure looked swell in that jump suit, though.

god...that's incredibly funny and so right on and near depressing at the
same time. i miss you. we've gotta find a way to allow you to juggle
fire, drink a bit of scotch, smoke a cigar, and catch a few small but
lovely trout in carolina among fellow travelers. to be sure, you've got
a business trip or some damn excuse that will justify a visit down here,
eh? of course...we'll need a bit of rain to get the flows right in the
freestones. but there are a few tailwaters or lakes we could use as an
excuse to open an 18 year-old scotch.

Boy, you sure know how to tempt a guy. I'm going to have to think about
this. Might be a good excuse for a road trip on the cycle come springtime.
