wrote: Money doesn't talk If you think that a very expensive rod is better than some other less expensive tool, then you must perforce buy the expensive one. One thing is certain, it will not normally catch you any more fish than a cheapie. Quite excellent rods which cost ten dollars ex-factory in Korea, or Taiwan, are regularly sold in Europe and America under various brand names, for well in excess of two hundred dollars, and sometimes a very great deal more. The final price has little to do with the cost of actually producing the rods, and certainly not with the raw material cost or the inherent "quality". Transport, advertising, several middle-men taking their profits, etc etc, all jack the price up. This is also why comparing rods based on their retail prices is absolutely senseless, as you have no way of knowing how this price was set. It may have absolutely nothing whatever to do with the quality of the rod. received the first of my usual abundance of holiday fly-fishing catalog mailings today - feather-craft's christmas offerings. it's interesting to see what this retailer charges for a blank, a blank + kit, and a finished rod. winston BII-MX 4 piece 4 weight: blank - $338; kit - 448; rod - 675 sage gen 5 tcx series, 4 pc, 4 wt: blank - 390; kit - 508; rod - 780 tfo lefty kreh ticr-x series, 4 pc, 4 wt: blank - 112.50; kit - 162.50; rod - 249.95 jeff Indeed, the final price of such manufactured goods in the West is often very high indeed, most especially those in the luxury sectors. Comparisons of quality/durability/suitability of various goods based on retail price often make no sense at all. The actual "value" of many goods is also a moot point, depending as it does on the pricing structures of such goods and the number of people along the way taking their cuts,plus advertising etc, and the size of such cuts. This of course is now the "normal" state of affairs, but as a result, it is often possible to obtain various things at prices far below their "normal" prices, and in many cases obtain goods of equal or even much better quality at extremely low prices. There is no difference at all between a blank or a rod sold for twenty dollars in Korea, and the same blank or rod sold for 200 dollars in the West. Given the same materials, specifications, and fittings, it often seems very hard indeed to justify the price differences. Although many people refuse to believe this, it is nevertheless the case. The "status" concept which many have of various things also holds the prices up on items which many people consider to be the best, but in many cases only because these things are the most expensive. In the meantime, the difference in performance of various modern rods is marginal at best, and most people are in any case unable to make any practical use of such marginal differences. Just how it is.................... TL MC |

Sure, here you go............
Oh, Inisfree, my island, I'm returning From wasted years across the wintry sea. And when I come back to my own dear Ireland, I'll rest a while beside you, gradh mochroidhe.* ORIGINAL LYRICS TO THE SONG: (by Dick Farrelly) I've met some folks who say that I'm a dreamer, And I've no doubt there's truth in what they say, But sure a body's bound to be a dreamer When all the things he loves are far away. And precious things are dreams unto an exile. They take him o'er the land across the sea -- Especially when it happens he's an exile From that dear lovely Isle of Inisfree. And when the moonlight peeps across the rooftops Of this great city, wondrous though it be, I scarcely feel its wonder or its laughter. I'm once again back home in Inisfree. I wander o'er green hills through dreamy valleys And find a peace no other land could know. I hear the birds make music fit for angels And watch the rivers laughing as they flow. And then into a humble shack I wander -- My dear old home -- and tenderly behold The folks I love around the turf fire gathered. On bended knees ,their rosary is told. But dreams don't last -- Though dreams are not forgotten -- And soon I'm back to stern reality. But though they pave the footways here with gold dust, I still would choose the Isle of Inisfree. * Gaelic words meaning "love of my heart" |

Indeed, but it´s Gaelic;
http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=PJyozf...eature=related My Gaelic is no longer very good apart from a few old songs which I sometimes sing, I still love to hear it though. "Celtic Woman" is probably my current favourite group, sexy ladies who can sing, a glass of Jameson 15 Year Old Pot Still at my right hand when I pause on the banjo or the guitar, and a lot of songs I like, who could ask for more! Well, there are lots of good people on the Bodhran and Celtic Fiddle,
but they are certainly not better; http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=_imLJA...eature=related It is not only the quality, but the breadth and depth of talent in the group. There is nothing more haunting than a celtic harp. The ladies also shine as a result of their musical talent, which enhances their physical beauty enormously. I also love such pure Irish voices, although I realise thant some do not. To quote an old friend of my Irish uncle, "I´d rather have one of them naked on my my bedcover, than you in your best suit!" Hmmm........don´t know about "fan-clubs" and the like, I like the music
and the ladies look good too. However, the fiddler is Mairead Nesbit; http://www.maireadnesbitt.com/12801024.html All of the ladies are exceptional singers and musicians. Regards and tight lines! Mike |
