I think it possible that neither Kerry nor Edwards will be nominated. A
draft Hillary movement could prevail. At any rate, it almost doesn't matter to me anymore. Getting too old I guess. Dave The thought of another Clinton Presidency is thoroughly repellent. This may well be the most frightening political possibility I've heard today. There's something about Hillary that sets my back teeth on edge. I feel very much the same way about her that I feel about Ashcroft. But the day you quit caring, Dave, is the day they give someone your folded flag. -- Stev Lenon 91B20 '68-'69 Drowning flies to Dark Star http://web.tampabay.rr.com/stevglo/i...age92kword.htm |

You're wrong about Kerry's war record, the men who served with him know the truth of it. You're the last person on earth I would have expected to spit on a Vietnam Vet, but your partisan politics seems to trump even your military allegiance. I had thought better of you than that. I *question* his war record. Not everyone gets a Silver Star. Ask the grunts at Khe Sahn. You earn it and I simply question how he won it. Who signed off on it. But, most of all, I question is behavior when he returned and turned his back on his fellow vets, calling them all sorts of names and accusing them all of doing things that just weren't true for all of them. And, his alliance with Hanoi Jane was the last straw. He is despised by most VN vets. Dave http://hometown.aol.com/davplac/myhomepage/index.html |

Dave:
By his own account, he was a walking wounded. IOW, his wounds were something that just about everyone received. I have a friend that tripped and ripped open his leg on some re-bar. When getting it patched up, they asked if it happened during combat. He said no. But, if they didn't ask him, he would have been rewarded the PH Sorry, Chief, we differ here. All wounds count. Some are less disabling than others, less disfiguring than others, but all of them are important if its your body that's bleeding, however little. I was foolish enough not to demand mine be written up. I carry the metal but not the medals. If I had it to do over again, I'd grab someone in the rear echelon by the throat and not let go until I had the paperwork copies in hand. Anyone who was wounded, however lightly, deserves that Purple Heart. The Silver Star is different. Medal such as the Bronze and Silver Stars were handed out like candy in some units during Vietnam. -- Stev Lenon 91B20 '68-'69 Drowning flies to Dark Star http://web.tampabay.rr.com/stevglo/i...age92kword.htm |

My father-in-law was a forward
artillery observer in WW2, & found himself bleeding on more than one occasion. No doubt he could have and should have received the PH, but was never put in for it. I suppose it partly depends on the inclination of the CO. Joe F. Right on both suppositions. -- Stev Lenon 91B20 '68-'69 Drowning flies to Dark Star http://web.tampabay.rr.com/stevglo/i...age92kword.htm |

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/02/24/po...gn/24COMB.html What am I so despicable about? I know he saved a guy (Green Beret, I believe), but I am questioning his actions to receive the Silver Star. The VC was shot with a .50 caliber. If it doesn't kill you immediately, you will die very quickly from loss of blood. It makes a big hole going in and an even bigger hole going out. That entire article talked about his service, but there was only one sentence for what he did to receive the Silver Star. The entire article should have been *about* the Silver Star. Saving the Green Beret more is more than enough to get the Bronze Star. I'm surprized he also didn't get the Soldier/Sailor medal for doing it. But it is the Silver Star actions that have many wondering exactly how he did that. You do not get a Silver Star for killing a wounded VC. As far as his PHs are concerned, they were scratches, but if he got three PHs he could go home. You do the math. Did you know that LBJ received the Silver Star for flying in a bomber as a passenger? If he told the docs it WAS a combat wound, regardless how he received it, he would have been awarded the PH. (He has one anyway.) I have friends that are still carrying small chunks and don't have the PH. Dave http://hometown.aol.com/davplac/myhomepage/index.html |
