Done yet?

Nope, I'll be here for a while.

OK. Just let me know when you're finished wanking. And please clean up the
mess.

Persistent image; 27 hours and counting. Can't get it out of your mind,
huh? Let's see how long it lasts.

Wolfgang
any teenage girls in there......or is it just me?

You get on ROFF typically several times a day, and you're wanking every
time. That's the whole point of it for you.

any teenage girls in there......or is it just me?

Just you.

Once again, the rest of roff is left in the dance hall with an empty
dance card while rw and Wolfgang waltz into the wee (no pun intended)
hours of the morn.

Think so?

I'm flattered.

Wolfgang

entirely in stevie's fantasies.

shop there any more, not a bad thing to say about such a fine man.

Are you coming East anytime soon?

Mike

He s building a house/cabin up near Deposit last I heard , maybe it s
done now SO I imagine he s spending most of his time on the upper
Del. Bob was one of the earlier pioneers of that fishery; after
gradually became a tailw ater fishery and is well know up there.

I ll be coming out , May 12-22.Ill be staying up at Harry s Lodge on
the West branch fishing with some friends. Got an invite to fish at
the henryville club on the Brodhead, I m salvating about that ! And
hope to go out to Penns , I have a friend with a cabin near Wiekert.
Seeing highschool and Karate friends too. If you re going to be up
the Del or at Penns during the week let me know, maybe we can meet?
Id love to find Bob then too !

I'll be at Penn's for sure but the week of the Clave so probably won't see
you there unless you change your plans.

I may be able to barter a day or two on the Delaware, I haven't spent any
time up there besides aimlessly wondering in between client stops a few
times. If I can make it up, I'll drop you a line..

Mike

Would like to run to Bob again someday, not sure that I made such an
impression on him, but if nothing else to thank him for showing me a few
things.

Ken I am not saying all factory rods are bad because thats just not the
case. But let me put it to you this way a custom rod will hold up
better over time. A custom rod will be less expensive for the same
blank and components because the customer is not paying for a warrenty.

OK, let's do the math. We're talking about 7/8 weights here so let's
take the Winston BoronIIx 7wt. This is a 4 piece rod with a fighting
butt that sells as a factory rod for $615 and as a blank for $308.

Blank - $308
Components - ~$60 wholesale
Labor- at least 10 hours

Ok, my local dealer wanted retail for the components and $110 for the
labor. If you want to make it top of the line, figure $160 for struble
titanium reel seat and fighting butt, $20 for flor cork, dont know the
price of the other compontents. I just bought the boron 2x rod and it
was only $248 out the door (2 day shipping) for people in the fly
fishing industry. The blank was $120 plus shipping, and taking it to
the local rod maker would of been $110 for the labor, plus about $20 for
the cork, plus about $50 for the reelseat, no idea what the rest would
be, but would be a hell of alot more than the rod.

Ken I'll keep up with this cause I think it funny.
Every manufacturer sells wholesale, every single one including Sage and
Winston.
That retail 300.00 blank is about 125.00 wholsale and the components,
epoxy, finish and thread could run 60-80 bucks. Excluding drying time
for epoxy and finish I could build a simple (sage like) fly rod in
about 4 hours start to finish, you could too, it aint rocket science.
If you can tie a fly and read a book you could do it. Its is so frickin
simple thats why I am amazed at the prices for these rods. Thats it
from here take care. Bruce

What you are forgetting to mention is first you would have to take a
class or join a fly fishing club (both cost money) to learn how to do
the work. Then you would have to invest in the tools to make the rod.
Then, while it may be 4 hours of work its about 36 hours of drying time.
For someone with a job it takes a heck of alot of time.

Lets say you are lucky enough to get a blank from wintson at cost. Just
spending $~50 for a retailers license aint gonna get you one. You have
to have a storefront. But we will ignore than. If you do get the blank
for wholesale from winston (good luck unless you are in the industry)
and you dont know how to build one and dont have the materials, taking
it to a rod builder is going to cost over $100 in labor and over $200 in
parts, just for a rod that is similiar to a retail winston.
