Not really much new. I've been working a little white antron in to a
lot of patterns, like as a small splaying ball on the prince, etc. How
about you?

As I look on the index card I have on the desk I stuck up after my
last trip it said:
1) Sm #16-#18 grey wulff's
2) Bead heads of all flavors
3) Copper J's

So, I think that's the "need to tie" list. The "want to tie" list has
me thinking on some classic wet flies. Iron blue dun's, Leadwing
Coachman, Cahill's and the like. I hope Rusty sees this and posts some
of his emerger patterns as well.

Sorry man!

I used to say that I did not have the time and that I would rather be
playing music w my time but the truth is
My eyesight was never great and with age it has gotten worse.
I used to tie 00 and 02 flies for stripers when we lived in NH.

Now... I can't even see to tie on #14's - barely..
I try to take one of my young minions w me to help

I live in MT so I fish mainly there and surrounding states
w forays to Alaska and parts of N Canada
As I am getting older I still have enough,money left for the trip of a
lifetime as I cannot take it all w me
We are planning a trip to Patagonia in the next yr or 2

I bought a bunch of straeamers from Harry's flies
There is also a private very healthy lake right near me full of large
rainbows
The lake is full of leeches so streamers and buggers are prefect

For about 75% of my fishing this season I fished a dry caddis with a
soft hackle dropper.

Caddis
Body: yellowish dubbing
Wing: light elk tied slightly longer than a EHC
Hackle: heavily hackled either with Cree or Brown and Grizzly mix

Soft hackle
Body: red wire
Abdomen: peacock
Hackle: partridge

Versatile combination. You can fish it dead drift, swing it or (my
favorite) bounce the dry across the surface with the soft hackle
trailing behind.

PS I did find a small piece of the "better" foam you talk about in a
package I got. It is black and it makes a killer beetle imitation.

Not sure what happened with the other I copied and pasted it!

I've been telling people about skittering dries for years (not that I
invented it or anything), but with all the emphasis on dead drifting,
most people are skeptical. It doesn't always work but it frequently will
bring fish to the surface that wouldn't come up to a dead drifted fly.
It's also the most fun technique I know with the types of strikes it
generates.

Willi: what diameter wire? Also, did you mean a peacock thorax? I think
of an abdomen as the last part of the fly.

Yeah brain fart, peacock thorax, wire abdomen

I use ultra wire size BR for size 18 to 14

I usually use the gray speckled white feathers from the partridge. Kind
of a royal coachman color combo.
