Default 2008 Bob Rickard Memorial/Northwoods Classic Day One

Well all, day one has come and gone. I wish I could say that the weather
was beautiful and the fish were jumping in the boat, but that's just not the
case this year.

When I put the boat in this morning, it was a positively balmy 47 degrees
and it really didn't seem to warm up much at all during the day. A wicked
cold-front hit, strong easterly winds, a little drizzle mixed in and it made
for a tough day's fishing for some, if not most of the contestants. As I
type this, it's warmed up to 54 degrees.

I had one of my part-time videographers, Shane with me and we struggled to
boat two keepers each. I caught both of my fish on Tournament Sticks as did
Shane. I caught some good pike on Secret Weapons, and one short bass. A
lot of short fish were caught by most of the anglers today!

The Day One Weigh In results a

Kevin - 0 (But he did catch on big perch)
Shane - 2.59
Dave - 3.17
Chad - 3.28
Ronnie - 3.79
Gary - 3.80
Me - 4.18
Jerry - 4.43
Chris - 7.97
Moe - 9.18
Jason - 11.34
and Gil...... - 14.66!

Chris S. has the lead in the "Non-Bass" category with a 31" dogfish and
Jerry is in the lead for the number of prop blades broken with three blades
"altered" on his rental boat.

But, we eat well tonight on buffalo, Corsican ram and wild boar.

Why not?

I long for temps like that, I dream of cold mornings and cool
evenings!

I had one of my part-time videographers, Shane with me and we struggled to
boat two keepers each. I caught both of my fish on Tournament Sticks as did
Shane. I caught some good pike on Secret Weapons, and one short bass. A

That's normal.

Ronnie, what is going on? Ya can't let Gil run away with it like
this! Come on man pick it up!!!

Gary - 3.80
Me - 4.18
Jerry - 4.43
Chris - 7.97
Moe - 9.18
Jason - 11.34
and Gil...... - 14.66!

Jerry, remember that button on the throttle? Come on raise that motor
a little bit higher. BG

But, we eat well tonight on buffao, Corsican ram and wild boar.

I am so bummed about missing it this year! I hope everyone catches
more and bigger fish than ever before...But not more or bigger than
Ronnie!!! VBG

Good luck everyone and stay safe!!!

Default 2008 Bob Rickard Memorial/Northwoods Classic Day One

The 2008 Bob Rickard Memorial/Northwoods Classic, the eighth and possibly
last Classic to be held here in Rhinelander is now in the bag. Day Two was
tough fishing as well, with some nice come-back attempts from guys that
brought in some good bags of fish.

I didn't fair well, with the trolling motor on my boat dying an hour and a
half into the day. There was very little wind, and what there was switched
around so much that it was virtually impossible to set up for a drift. I'd
get the boat into position and as soon as I figured everything would work,
the wind would shift and I'd end up someplace else!

We had a great time as always, with lots laughter going deep into the night
most nights, vast quantities of food were consumed and friendships renewed
for another year. Here's the final standings for the tourney.

Gil - (Day 1) 14.66 (Day 2) 0 Total 14.66
Moe - (Day 1) 9.18 (Day 2) 5.02 Total 14.20
Gary - (Day 1) 3.80 (Day 2) 9.04 Total (after quarter lb. dead fish
penalty) 12.59
Jason - (Day 1) 11.34 (Day 2) 0 Total 11.34
Ronnie - (Day 1) 3.79 (Day 2) 7.07 Total 10.86
Chris - (Day 1) 7.97 (Day 2) 2.74 Total 10.71
Jerry - (Day 1) 4.43 (Day 2) 3.24 Total 7.67
Shane - (Day 1) 2.59 (Day 2) 3.54 Total - 6.13
Me - (Day 1) 4.18 (Day 2) 0 Total 4.18
Chad - (Day 1) 3.28 (Day 2) 0
Dave - (Day 1) 3.17 (Day 2) 0 Total - 3.17
Kevin - (Day 1) 0 (Day 2) 0 Total 0

I'm glad the final standings came out the way they did. Gil has wanted to
win this for a long time, and you should have seen his face when I announced
him as the winner, his face lit up the Al-Gen dining room! Moe fished well
and helped Gil figure out the pattern, so it was right they came in first
and second. Gary has always been a consistent finisher, having won the NWC
twice in the past, and Ronnie, also a two time winner came in fifth with a
nice bag of fish under tough conditions.

I wish we could have had more people here, but I understand the economy has
people sticking close to home. All in all, it was a good time and I hope to
continue the tournament, either here if we stay in Wisconsin, or maybe the
Mid-Tennessee will be rekindled.

WTG everyone! Sounds like a fun time, and from what experiences that I've
had the few times that I attended... I know it was!

Looks like the stringers are getting better every year, and on a no-culling
lake that is IMPRESSIVE! One of these days I'm going to have you guys teach
me to fish a weedy lake... I'm at a total loss on weeds! Congratulations to
everyone, especially Gil!
