Fishing in Brasil for Peacock bass was my favorite trip and if I get the
chance I'm going back. Best topwater strike on the planet!!!!

What lures? I am going to the Amazon in a month.

When I lived in Jamestown, NY you could the cuban cigars at the casino on

Oddly enough, the most Cuban cigars I've been able to "come across" in my
days have been from "big town" cab drivers (Washington DC, NYC, Atlanta) as
they have "cousins" that fly in from all over Europe & the Middle East, buy
them in the duty free shops over there and somehow get them into the US to
sell through their informal "cab drivers" network. And if they are fake,
they're darn good ones, down to the boxing and very very authentic looking
bands.

Honestly though, some of the Dominican stuff that we can already buy here is
not too bad. No more cigars than I smoke a year anyway. Now that the Opus X
isn't so hard to get, Cuban smokes aren't that big of a deal anyway IMO.
They're very decent "legal" smokes.

Well, depends on the political climate toward us Yanks down there at the
time. If I thought I could survive the trip, I would consider it. And

maybe
puff on a couple of Cuban Cohiba or Partagas smokes while I was there. It
would be kind of hard to sneak cigars in with the bands off coming from
CUBA, so I'd have to enjoy them there. It is much easier to get a few

Cuban
smokes in from Aruba....so I hear. lol

What about Cuba?

I hear that Castro has some nice bass lakes down there.

Warren's thread about best bass trip of '04 started me thinking.

What
is
your IDEAL bass trip? I would imagine for some it would be big fish,
others numbers, or location, or spending time with friends.

For me, in order of importance:
1. My ideal trip would have to be shared.

2. The location would have nice scenery with as little evidence of
man as possible.

3. Generally if I could decide one over the other, I'd rather catch

20
small keepers than 2 or 3 larger ones in the same amount of time.

UNLESS
one of those large ones was a real trophy!

I'm just a simple country boy, so to me ANY bass fishing trip is

ideal;
month, day, and weather bedamned.

But if we're reaching for the stars here, I'd say some lake in Mexico

where
fish over 10 lbs are plentiful, or maybe somewhere further South where

I
could get a chance at a decent sized Peacock Bass. If that Make-A-Wish

stuff
above is too much, I'd settle for tying into a 50+ lb striper down at

the
coast here in NC sometime.

Of course if we're talking "dream" dates here, I'd like to find a nice

lake,
any lake, full of fish, that hadn't seen a hook in it for 10 years or
so....but was otherwise ecologically sound, of course. We had access

to
a
lake like that once, got fished only a handful of times every year, by

only
a handful of people. The owner died, the lake and surrounding property

sold,
and fishermen line the bank day in and day out now. The fishing there

has
died considerably since, and hardly any keeper bass are ever caught

there
anymore. Back in the day, a *bad* day there was 5 or 6 4-pounders,

with
a
couple 5+ thrown in for good measure. Not bad for a 20 acre lake/pond.

Oooo but I'd get my NWC revenge on Champlain in September lol. Let's see,
I
could do 10 bass at 35 pounds in 2 days. That's 10 more bass & 35 more
pounds than I did on Boom in 3 years...

Oddly enough, other people caught bass on Boom........

Come back in August, try a different piece of water and let's hear the
excuses!

That is a better weekend... being that I won't have to rush back in time
for
work on Monday. I also still have no problem with Boom Lake. The fish are
there... somewhere. What are my odds of catching a Muskie on Tomahawk?

That said... Champlain really should be a consideration sometime in the
future. Moving the Mid-Tenn Classic to Okeechobee was a treat for all of
us... wasn't it?

Hi Charles,

I don't have a problem with Boom Lake either. But after giving it some
thought, I figured that I'd move the NWC to Mohawksin and give you guys a
look at a different lake. Now, if fish aren't caught on this lake, don't
blame me, it's the lake that I take clients to when they want to catch
smallmouth bass.

Your odds are as good or better to catch a muskie on Mohawksin as they are
on Boom, and there's even some monster dogfish there too! :-)

I've had a couple . Once i had to take someone with me who was quite critical
of my time spent fishing. It was early morn and it was the best fishing i ever
had and looked almost like tv show fishing to my audience. It was good for me
since the criticism fell off after that.

Another time i followed a path through the brush to the water. I met a bear
coming the other way. I stood my ground and the bear veered off. That's what
made me realize that the path was made by Mr. Blackie (bear) and not short
anglers.

Looks like I'll get to try different water (for me, anyway). I attended
a "Texas Fishing Forum" Christmas social last Friday night. It was a toy
drive for underpriviledged kids, and a chance to put faces to screen
names. Many donated door prizes, and I won an 8 hour trip on Lake
Bridgeport, which is one of the few lakes around here where you can
readily find smallmouth bass. I'm looking forward to the increased
"fight" I hear about from all you northerners.

Also, I want to say I've enjoyed the responses to this thread, it shows
the differences in our goals when fishing.

Great scenery & nice weather never hurts either.

My ideal trip would be to go to the same water I've been fishing for
over 20 years, the CA delta, but boat a 16+ large-mouth. Maybe in '05?
