I have a two year old bow mounted Minn Kota 40 ibs. trolling motor. I pulled it out yesterday to go do some fishing to find that the foot peddel that gives the thrust for however long the peddel is pressed didn't work. Everything else on the control works (ie left right steering, the slide accuater, and the auto pilot switch) However I did have to mess with it (move it back and forth) till it made good contact and started working. I don't know where to start trying to resolve the issue can anyone help?

Sounds like a short. If you feel ambitious, you could open it up and
check it out. The contacts might also be dirty so cleaning them and
spraying them with a little CRC Electronic Cleaner:

As a last resort, eBay has replacements available. Make sure you spell
"pedal" correctly in your search.

I think I can help your problem. First take the plug for the foot pedal
apart and spray contact cleaner on both the parts. If your handy
mechanically you can take the pedal apart and see if the switch you press
with your foot works. If it doesn't you will have to replace the pedal. My
last one was around $60.

Ryan,

First use contact cleaner on the connector plugs on the cord. If that
does not do it take it apart and clean it up. They are pretty simple
units. You should be able to find info on the Minnkota site, but I
have not been there in a long time.

Minnkota has authorized repair centers/people all over. Look on their
site for one near you if you have a problem or don't want to mess with
it yourself.
