Undersized school bass are always in the estuaries unless there is huge freshwater flooding - leave them to grow bigger. Start to look for sizeable bass from Easter if the water is warming up - they don't really come in in quantity until mid June as a rule. Expect them to thin out from mid October and all be gone as you open the new rod at Christmas. Icbw, someone here will know: I think the rules are a little unusual at Mudeford and you may need to buy a permit - or that might just be for boats. Hth, Cheerio, -- |

Hth, Cheerio, -- on the Quay its Sea, theres a post and message board each side of the harbour, about 100 yards from the sea defining the fresh water edge the Solent has a double high tide, ie two peaks normaly and heres a website that gives you a plot http://www.ukho.gov.uk/tideprediction.cfm once the high drops, and the harbour water sarts flowing into the sea, its very tricky to keep a weight on the bottom at Mudeford, 8oz grippers uptide etc to stay when the Run runs. when the weed and flotsom floats down the Run go home. the main channel there is called the Run. a rolling big fish bait is good for big sea bass. long range over the channel and onto the sand bars for misc fish. its a hard mark to actualy catch any fish, but worth trying, esp in foul weather conditions and a good high tide. you have shelter from the SW winds at the east of the Quay near the green lights, the trees keep most of the wind off you. I always enjoyed fishing Mudeford Quay, esp after midnigth on a good high, carpark is empty then, and nice and peacful, and nice to feel the waves thud into the quay, Mudeford Quay is built on a sandbar so shakes nicely. (same as old Port Royal) when you get a really GOOD high with the wind in the south, the water rolls across the carpark, great fun sitting on the backs of the benchs with the water rolling under them. regards malcolm |
