From the Book "Trout Madness"

Successful fly fishing for trout is an act of high deceit; not only
must the angler lure one of nature's subtlest and wariest creatures, he
must do so with something that is false and no good - an artificial fly.
Thus fake and sham lie at the heart of the enterprise. The amount of
Machiavellian subtlety, guile, and sly deception that ultimately becomes
wrapped up in the person of an experienced trout fisherman is faintly
horrifying to contemplate. Thus fiendishly qualified for a diplomatic
career he instead has time only to fish. So lesser diplomats continue to
grope and bumble and their countries continue to fall into war. The only
hope for it all, I am afraid, is for the Lord to drive the trout
fishermen into diplomacy, or else drive the diplomats to trout fishing.
My guess is that either way we'd be more apt to have peace.: the
fishermen-turned-diplomats would hurriedly resolve their differences on
the trout stream so that they might return to their fishing, while the
diplomats-turned-fishermen would shortly become so absorbed in their new
passion they'd never again find time for war.

Robert Traver aka(John D. Voelker) 1960

Wait till you post something about what temperature or insect
identification. Is it just me or are the flytiers the more balanced of
the bunch? Guess there are just a lot of us itching to go fishing.

For me if I tie it with a vise and enjoy tying the pattern I will fish
it.

That part sounds Corndog explaining it to MACFLY after a 12 pack of
Budweiser without the slurs.

Or, to me it just sounded like Corndog after a twelve pack of Bud.

It seems simple enough:

Fly fishing is as the name implies, fishing using artificial flies.

Using glo "bugs" and other imitation "things" is just fishing
artificials using "fly fishing" equipment.

For any of you fly fishing history buffs, were the originators of the
sport(those first using the term "fly fishing") dry fly men, or were
nymphs and streamers part of the game back in those early days too?

Well, now we know.

What FF sounds like after a 12 pack of Schlitz.

You can play it backwards and it still sounds the same.

FF,

All of the above, wittingly or un wittingly many "wool" fly’s floated
but were not derivative or imitative patterns.

Many streamers ( feathered ) fly’s may have resembled nymphs, minnows ,
terrestrials etc.. To the trout.

Regardless a Nymph is not a fly till it Hatches any more than a
caterpillar is till it metamorphosis’s into a butterfly ergo a NYMPH is
artificial bait Not a fly....

Just as an egg is not a fry or fingerling or par trout so an egg is
really a Pre Streamer

And if the streamer is tied with Feathers than does that make it a FLY,
unless it came from a feathered bird that could not fly……?
