bloody 525mag
Hi all Tried all the suggestions, still bird nesting, I've used multipliers
all my fishing life, including the old mitchell 602 and I've never had trouble with a reel like what I have now, I have the ordinary 525 with one brake block and white rocket fuel, casts like a dream, but this bloody mag is a different story altogether. It's already ruined 2 fishing trips, Going to try a bit of grease in it now. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Well Tony - looks like you really need to concentrate on getting a SMOOTH
cast !! - NO hint of a jerk at all !!!! You read my earlier posting - grease won't get into bearing - try warming it up - say to 150C in oven - then drop into small amount of 'thicker' oil - Don't kill the real - it will work - honest .. Just be very gentle with it...I use Parker Hale Express Gun Oil on all my reels - No, they don't go bang or rusty LOL...... Keep trying , you will get there - remember - smooth, downwind, sandy beaches, daytime, listen and LOOK at the reel as the line spools off, get in tune with it....and...........get ready with that thumb.......Try resting it gently on the drum as you cast, and gradually easy off as your confidence grows, cast short to start with, then increase distance. Good luck.. "malcolm" wrote in message news:Vlsdb.606409$o%2.285652@sccrnsc02... always carry a spare reel or three................ "Antony Wills" wrote in message ... Some good points in your posting - been there, got the URL in Favorites ...
but lost the UK address of 'similar' magnets - Can anyone remember for me ? I used 12 lb line to start with - DISASTER !!, then went to 20lb - much better - now use 30lb Spiderline (14lb mono equivilant) lively but great fishing. I find that all multipliers need the line "bedding in", I usually start with short casts, loads of thumb !! then gradually increase casting distance - eyes and ears and thumb at the ready !!! Till I can whack-it-out. I also find the is an 'optimum' level of line on the spool - about 1/16th inch from lip of spool, where the 45deg angle meets the vertical - erm :- ) seems ok to me. I am sure our original poster really needs help to get a really smooth cast....as well as a bit of tecky help.... |

I've had a nice email from Mr Mackellow himself, detailing everything I need
to know to make the reel usable and instrutions on how to remove bearings etc. thought it was very nice of him, he has even offered to tune the reel himself, very chuffed !!! thanks to all anglers concerned for their advice, you all have been a great help and I will get this reel running as I want it to. Tim(Antony-I only use my official name for official things for everything else it's Tim !!!) |
