Default Evindure outboard motors

I'm looking ast buying a used Evinrude 40 hp outboard motor. I'm guessing from
the seller's address that it has had at least some salt water use. This is my
firsdt outboard purchase. Any suggestions as to what I should look for?

Thanks,
Dave

Don't buy it... get a Yamaha, Honda, or a Mercury.
Evinrude went belly up and new people took over..
no old parts, no resale...just old motors you can't get fixed.
Don't buy for any reason... ..just check out the boat dealerships...
no one in our area carries them....I'm from Daytona Fl. Yamaha is #1
Honda 4 cycle is 3rd. and Mercury is a close 2nd , I have a 2003 Mercury
after owning a 95 and a 2000 Yamaha, I fish about 2000 hrs a year, sorta
like working 50 40 hr weeks...in 1 year..never had a problem with any of
them.
I had a Evinrude in 97-98 and broke a crankshaft...they wanted $1350.00 to
fix it.
